Crusader Kings II - Fletcher - 07-14-2012 Since the Steam sale inevitably invaded my bank account, Crusader Kings II became a game that I had an interest in, so I got it. Sadly, I'm kind of overwhelmed by all the titles, marriages and general 'sims-in-1066' feel of things, its annoying to me. But, then again its all part of the big picture and I better learn fast. Naturally, I start up as Gwynedd, one of the Welsh factions and proceed to try and annex the locals... and fail since I rushed a siege or two and didn't fully pay attention to a few tutorials... Then again, Paradox with tutorials has never been a good mix. So yeah, I got this game where I'm flailing and struggling to get to grips with, but I'll get there and create a continental Welsh Empire  That, or I could troll the Pope and invade as a Muslim nation, for kicks. Anyone else got this game? If so, tips? I'm considering coding some cheat events since I did that for Darkest Hour with... many downloads. Crusader Kings II - Jihadjoe - 07-14-2012 A good friend of mine is working on the A Game of Thrones mod for that, which has had a fair bit of media coverage. Apparently it's well worth a look. [/shameless plug for a friend's work] Crusader Kings II - Dab - 07-14-2012 I play it regularly Fletch. Irwin also has that game and we've played it a few times together. I can help you out, give you pointers, play a few MP games where I can show you the ways to play the title system to expand. With the newest patch, forming the Kingdom of Wales is much easier (used to have to have both Brittany and Wales, now just need Wales). I always prefer to play the 3-province Duke of Brandenburg inside the Holy Roman Empire. HRE Dukes are actually quite fun to play, and it's always nice gaining enough power to topple the Kaiser himself and gain independence. Though you do have to contend with rising Crown laws, which means toppling the Kaiser a few times throughout the course of the game until you decide to go independent of him. Crusader Kings II - Fletcher - 07-14-2012 Yeah, I finally managed to create the Kingdom of Wales, but dealing with all the succession thing still puzzles me slightly. I'm trying to consider whether to help Scotland or Ireland unite by marrying into one of their families and waging war of unification on their behalf to try and counter England's unification. Here's a nice guide to a lot of the more complicated concepts. CK2 is a fantastic game, really a nice sequel to the original CK (which I also really enjoyed, although it's dated). Anyways I usually reference that guide when I play since it gives you a lot of information that's not always understandable through gameplay. Look about halfway down for the guide to succession laws. Crusader Kings II - Fletcher - 07-19-2012 First crusade as Kingdom of Wales, I hoarded a lot of money, hired some mercenaries to invade Seville, which miffed the Pope. We won. I'm now King of Wales and a good chunk of south Spain. What to do what to do. Heathen. Wales takes over Brittania, everyone knows this. Crusader Kings II - Fletcher - 07-19-2012 http://steamcommunity.com/id/crazywelshy/s...724080804461064 I keep getting the notification that I can usurp the Emirate of Seville, but the button isn't activating... EDIT: Now King Henri II wants to marry one of my daughters! http://steamcommunity.com/id/crazywelshy/s...724080804649558 Winning a crusade certainly has its benefits, my piety and prestige are through the roof! Crusader Kings II - Dab - 07-19-2012 ' Wrote:Winning a crusade certainly has its benefits, my piety and prestige are through the roof! Now enjoy having to continually defend your Spanish holdings from the Muslims while you wait 20 years for the cultural conquer modifiers to remove from those provinces and finally give you all the tax and levies of them. I like to come in 2nd in crusades. That way I get lots of prestige, piety, and crusader traits (makes my bishops love me), but without the hassle of defending territory halfway across the map. Especially since I play as a north-German country in most games, and most crusades are called on Jerusalem.. Trying to run the Holy City from the throne in Brandenburg ain't the funnest thing to attempt. Crusader Kings II - Jihadjoe - 07-23-2012 So I have thie game now... Been playing a bit, and managed to get multiplayer to work. That's a rarity for a Paradox game... Might be worth making an effort at setting up a big MP game and getting a ton of people involved maybe. And Dab, holding bits of Spain isn't nearly as hard as holding jerusalem... Trust me on that. Also, dishing out the titles properly means you can get the population converted pretty quickly. |
