I can remember, that at the bottom of every article, the viewcount of that page was shown.
Why isn't it there anymore? I found it quite interesting to see how often they got viewed.

I guess someone set $wgDisableCounters = true;
Because of the way that variable works there's no point enabling the counters again. (Since they were disabled nothing has been counted, so there's LOTS of uncounted views.)
