I like the colours and the assymetry, and the rear looks especially. I approve! Also it reminds me of the old Ki of 4.85. Gitano v3 - with video - Charcoal - 08-05-2012 Looks awesome, reminds me of the old Ki light fighter. Would probably fit well with the Ki's old stats too. Gitano v3 - with video - Curios - 08-05-2012 Looks fun Gitano v3 - with video - Zukeenee - 08-05-2012 Some of those textures look a bit bland. It's got a good deal of minimally detailed beige on there. Also, those two gray panels on top don't appear as though they should have a couple of vent-things sitting on top of them. I like the shape, though. It's a simple idea, but with enough irregularities to look interesting. I'd wager a guess that this is the end product of that Ki replacement you were making. This Gitano's supposed to be a Light Fighter, though, right? With that in mind, it looks a bit large. I know that "size isn't an issue" when it comes to modeling, because it can all be scaled down, but in relation to the cockpit, the rest of the chassis looks a bit heftier then what I'd like to see in an LF. Maybe try upsizing the cockpit a bit to make the ship look "smaller". Other than that, I think it's pretty neat, with just a bit of an "unfinished" look to it. See what else you can do with the model, while maintaining that basic shape. It might just be the textures that are making it look bland to me, though. Hard to tell. Gitano v3 - with video - Huhuh - 08-05-2012 As I said on skype, I approve. Gitano v3 - with video - Swallow - 08-05-2012 ' Wrote:Some of those textures look a bit bland. I thought of Ki and made Gitano. As for a junker Vessel it looks pretty well. About size...well I think that its front profile will deal well enough with dodging. It has no wings and so on, so I`d say it may be just a bit larger than Scimitar and way smaller than Sunbeam. Also keep in mind that its Bulkyness will come into Bull-dog`s and Waran`s style...Yes, I`ve put an eye on those two to make them a proper models as well. Just imagine it as it was a Scimitar sized and you`ll be fine. About textures - well I`ve used some 64x64 ones (esc_pod_64,ect) so in some spots they would look low-quality. But you most of the time won`t see a difference because camera is not going to be that close as on the screenshots. Though I am glad to see constructive critics about my vessel. If only you could point me at what details should be there. The Scimitar/Dagger is bigger than what I'd like a Light Fighter to be. Yeah, this is just personal opinion here, but I don't consider the models of LFs like Scimitars, Sea Serpents, Griffins, etc. to be true "Light Fighter" models. They're VHF models with some bits taken off. Modular ships design is cool and all, but you end up with some slightly larger models when you base it off of a full-sized fighter. In my mind, a true LF should be the size of a Liberator or a Wyrm. They've got their own unique, tiny models, and are pretty awesome because of it. I like my LFs to be micro-sized. Again, this is just how I'd like to see LFs handled. It's alright if you'd rather keep your model in line with the size of the other Junkerish ships. That makes sense. But you most of the time won`t see a difference because camera is not going to be that close as on the screenshots.Texture quality isn't exactly what concerns me here. It's more about texture placement. The ship would look better if its hull panels lined up to each other between each polygon. In some places, the panels appear to just cut off without actually "ending". In others, they're being covered by other parts of the ship without any visible means of connection. For example, these panels look like they should be a part of something larger, like they've been cut off in the middle of some important chunk of metal. The edges of a texture should probably align with the edges of a surface, right? Or at least continue onto the next surface, without cutting off too early. I also understand that as a Junker vessel, it makes sense to have a mash-up of different kinds of textures and different kinds of metal. However, I'm not really feeling any overall "theme" with this one. You've got a lot of flat metal along with a fair variety of more detailed panels. They just don't seem to go together all that well. I'm not really familiar with the subject of texturing, so I don't know exactly how to tell you what looks off. It just looks... off. ' Wrote:Though I am glad to see constructive critics about my vessel.I'm not so sure right now that it needs much more detail added onto the model itself. I think it was just the texturing that's throwing off my vision of the model. Could we see a picture of this thing untextured? I feel like I'll be able to see more of it that way. Those are vanilla models though. So in the freelancer universe, they are true light fighter models (although I see what you're getting at). |
