Ok FL worked fine, then the evil virus came along that deleted everything so had to reinstall windowns.
So yes installed all the drivers for my graphics card: Intel Q965/Q963 Express Family Chipset x 2
got it from the Dell website for my model of computer installed fine.
Installed FL and the mod and then the problems start: all text is fine just background flickers and some parts of the ships flicker on and off, anyway the game worked and i logged into the wonderful world or discovery, then after about 30 mins the screen goes and all you see is a loverly green and dark blue (depending where i was) and nothing comes up then it stops everything from working and error after error comes up with Local files error and things as the such.
That makes me have to restart comp and when i bring it back up after i reboot same happens after i play for about 30 - 40 mins.
Not using Vista using XP home.

Update:
Reinstalled FL and FLMM and Disco.
Reinstalled latest drivers for Graphics card
Run several diagnostics from Dell (came up with nothing wrong)
Hit it with a hammer (worked last time)
Prayed to God (still nothing)

First, try downloading not only the graphics drivers, but also the chipset drivers from INTEL, NOT DELL.
Second, I've had problems running my resolutions different on dells. If you're running, for example, 1024x768 main-screen res, run that as your in-game res. My latitude notebook would do the same thing as what your dell is doing. This fixed it and stopped freaking out the graphics drivers.

Try DBoy's idea. Open your CD and find MSXML32.msi or something like that (in Redist). It fixed my graphics problem.

Boss, same for you altough it has stopped the game from crashing, well was only on for an hour but still no crash (server went down)

If it's an AGP slot type graphics card it can have an automatic or manual setting of 4x 8x etc.
These different multipliers use different voltages. Some boards (Soyo for example) only support one voltage setting.
If its an ATI card with Catalyst drivers, open the catalyst panel and change the AGP settings to 4x if its set higher and you think this is problem.
You can sometimes change in bios as well or with whatever utility your card came with.
If you keep running it on the wrong voltage (thats what it sounds like) then you can fry your graphics ship and even pop your whole motherboard.
Sometimes the "automatic" configuration settings set it to high--not realizing your mother board type doesn't support it.
Other alternative is you have a loose (not fully seated) power connector, a failing power supply or a bad card).

The color pixelation, restarts,erros and all you are talking about is a classic symptom of an improperly seated agp graphics card (not seated fully, locking clasp open, inserted crooked) or a graphics card running at wrong voltage setting.
As it started when you put the card in--I'd really check that.
It could be a freelancer thing but I would hate to see you screw your mobo or g-card up. Make sure you touch the metal case for a few seconds before touching the card and try not to touch circuit paths or solder points on it when putting it in and out.
Just reread your post and sorry--though you had put a new card in and said it was shutting down--my bad. If this isn't happening with other games (especially) or programs and only Freelancer then prolly a conflict there--not a bad card.

Happening on all games not just FL, tried turning 3D sound off didn't work and tryed tuning the AA (FSAA) but i have no idea how that works but followed a link and still nothing this is what i'm getting when i'm in the menu screen look at the Base:

I just read your PM...
I see you have an Intel graphics card. That might be the problem.
Despite Intel video cards supporting the Direct3D 9 API, those cards weren't made made for gaming. Those having D3D/OGL support is more a "marketing feature" than an useful feature.
The solution would be to get an ATi or nVidia Vcard.
Fortunately, freelancer does not require a powerful one, so anything over a cheap GeForce 4 (except the gefrce 5/FX line of cards) or Ati 9200 should do well. Still, I recommend Geforce 6600+ or Radeon 9800+
