I can't play at 2 FPS or lower, folks. It usually clears up in five to ten minutes, but that's absurd. Any ideas?

^.-

Bootup Freelancer and alt-tab back to Windows, open your task-manager and find out WHAT process is taking up all your resources, either in memory or in CPU usage.

Did you check if your virus-scanner wasnt doing a scheduled sweep?!

...Every bloody time I run the game? And yes, I did. Freelancer.exe, taking up 96%

Right now it's fixed itself. It'll be back as soon as I reboot the game though.

I feel very afraid if freelancer is using 96% of either your memory OR your CPU.. but that generally wouldn't reduce FPS, just the game's reaction speed.

In lieu of telling you to buy a new machine or build one, have you pulled all the dust out of your fans any time recently?

In my old computer, the CPU fan had so much dust in it it stopped turning, same with the graphics card. I ended up (without a can of air and boy does this stink) having to use a lollipop stick and a vacuum cleaner to agitate then suck the dust out from deep down in heatsinks of the fans.
