As Promised - Doc Holliday - 10-24-2012

The final curtain fell on my latest play production, "The Diary of Anne Frank," and it was emotionally draining. It's one thing to go from sad to joking to angry to scared over and over but it's even rougher when you consider that I portrayed someone who went through it only to die at the hands of the Nazis, December 20th, 1944.

This was the man I portrayed, Fritz Pfeffer, DDS. He was known as Alfred Dussel. Here's another picture with his then fiancee, Charlotte Kaletta.

This is the cast: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b204/Beowulf58/Theater/Oct-1-A-Anne-Frank_zpsd373220f.gif

Myself, Alfred Dussel with Anne Frank: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b204/Beowulf58/Theater/Copyof527758_4570927001281_1450500812_n_zps5d433b3a.jpg

This scene was us singing, in Hebrew, a prayer over the menorah during a Chanukah scene: http://s20.beta.photobucket.com/user/Beowulf58/media/Theater/playAnnFrank_0351standalone_zps893fc09e.jpg.html

And finally, our spread in the local paper: http://s20.beta.photobucket.com/user/Beowulf58/media/Theater/550532_4684051309318_1536371376_n_zps9cc562ba.jpg.html

After weeks of work and 8 performances later, many tears were shed and I find myself inspired by the 8 people who remained in hiding for over 2 years while still 2 others brought them friendship, goods and company over that time. Yes, I'm not ashamed to say that I broke down more than once. Maybe you will understand, maybe you won't. If not, read the story.
I'm hoping that in a couple of weeks, I may be able to upload a video clip. Let us see.

Enjoy!

Cool, thanks for posting it. I read the book in school, doing that play must not have been easy. The thing that always gets to you is that they arent just fictional characters but real people who got murdered in the end.

How tall are you Doc? You look huge in the photos. o.O

Hey doc,

Well looks like a fun cast. I am sure you have had much of fun! Looked at the pictures and well looks good. Only 1 shame.. no video Sad But to be honest its not a pre offcourse. And well its a good story of Anne Frank. Something wich in my view has gotten attention in the world on a good way. How harsh people can be to each other.. In this case a war. But also in real life people can judge and still exclude others because of their looks. Lucky you won't get killed for it, but it is a think everyone has to remind him/her self about. As we all are equal, but still different in a unique way. Like other interest an own life and things you carry along wich makes you who you are.. (but now little bit wandering off the discussion. sorry for that)

That is quite a feat, acting out anything from that topic is harsh at best...

Wonderful Doc! Wish I could have seen it!

RE: As Promised - Doc Holliday - 10-25-2012

Tim, I'm giving this in U.S. measure so those of you in metrics will need to convert. I stand 6 feet tall and I stand in at 230 lbs. My weight is deceptive since I'm broad shouldered and have a strong upper body. I also wear a size 7 3/4 hat.

You're right, Tim, it was tough to do when you consider the person you were playing once lived, went through that ordeal and died at the hand of the Nazi regime. Several days later, I'm still phased. Even my buddy whom I act with and I were talking about it earlier today. He portrayed the only one of the group who was executed in the gas chamber. Imagine what he felt.

As I said, once I get the DVD and figure out how to make videos and post them, I'll do so. I'll warn you though, my opening monologue after meeting everyone is heart wrenching.

I just got through reading that Rush's song, Red Sector A was a tribute to his mother and father who were survivors of Bergen-Belsen.

That little girl is soooo cute.

I had three boys trying to get one...sigh. At least I am spared those teenage years. Wink

And has anyone else noticed the naive assumption with our new modern progressives that, "We don't have to worry about big, evil wars anymore"?

They should watch your play.
