Solar Flare: [LN] vs. LR- - Manticore - 11-16-2012

Solar Flare
A [LN] vs. LR- Event on Nov. 24th at 6pm EST.

Background

The Liberty Navy's Primary Fleet has long been Liberty's first line of defense against targets both domestic and foreign. However, one of the most active and persistent of these threats are the Liberty Rogues, led by the warlord Moka. Moka's Rogues attack targets of opportunity within Liberty, seeking to cause as much damage to the house's infrastructure and military power as possible. They remain a constant thorn in the side of the Liberty Navy.

In the Ontario system, on the edge of Liberty's core space, a Dreadnought, one of the crown jewels of the Liberty fleet, is conducting an independent training exercise. While on the far side of the system's primary, a sudden and undetected solar flare lashes outwards. The dreadnought is temporarily disabled by the EMP wave generated by the flare, and is abruptly changed from a unassailable fortress to a vulnerable target of opportunity.

Finding itself in serious distress, with casualties and most systems offline, the Dreadnought is forced to transmit a system-wide distress call on open frequencies. Fortunately, a small Primary Fleet force is present at Fort Severn, and rushes to assist the wounded ship, but the transmission is also picked up deep within the St. Lawrence Ice Field, where the Rogues prepare a strike force of their own to attempt to destroy or capture the vessel.

Event Timeline

The event will proceed as illustrated:

Initially, the Dreadnought will be located in the vicinity of the yellow X, which will place it about 35k from Severn and roughly twice that distance from Cochrane, which will be the jump-off point for the LR force.

The Dreadnought will broadcast a system-wide SOS message. This will mark the start of the event.

A small group of [LN] forces will immediately move to the Dreadnought's location. This force will be relatively small, and be accompanied by a repair ship.

They will assess the damage and get the Dreadnought's impulse engines going. Once this is complete, they will proceed to begin escorting the ship out of the system via the Colorado jump hole, roughly 65k away.

At this point, the LR- forces will be able to begin their assault from Cochrane. They will move to interdict the group along the way to the jumphole, and a running battle will ensue.

If the Navy force successfully makes it to the jumphole, the event will open up to the public, and any additional forces may intervene on either side. The event officially ends if the Dreadnought makes it all the way back to Norfolk Shipyard in New York. If the Dreadnought is lost, the commanders on either side are free to call a retreat, or continue the action as they see fit.

Repairs

Once the Navy force arrives on the scene, the Dreadnought may begin making repairs, so long as both it and the repair ship are still alive.

A repair may be attempted once per minute. The repair succeeds or fails based on a coin toss (/coin in-game) the results of which will be broadcast publicly to all ships to ensure fairness. The captain of the Dreadnought will be responsible for selecting which system to attempt repair on, and then tossing the coin. If the result is heads, the repair is successful, and if it is tails, the attempt fails.

The following systems are disabled, and may be repaired:

- Weapons: A successful repair enables one of the ship's weapons of the captain's choice.
- Shields: A successful repair fixes the ship's shields, allowing the captain to re-enable them.
- Private Communications: A successful repair enables the ship to speak in private and group comms. Prior to this, all comms must be public.
- Cruise Engines: (x2) Two successful repairs enables the use of cruise engines.

Prior to any repairs, the Dreadnought is limited solely to the use of impulse drive and maneuvering thrusters, and may speak only in local or system chat.
