How did you learn to speak / write in english? - Zahas - 12-10-2012

I've learned english from watching cartoons and playing video games since i was like 4-5 years old. I have to say that the school didn't teached me a thing about english, all the verbs and how they'r perfect or imperfect i've learned from typing on forums.
But i have to say that sometimes when i speak english i realy suck so that's why i'm buggin' out everyone on skype to talk on the mic when we're playing, no harm there only interests as you can see again from me :p

And yeah i know my english isn't perfect at all.

And also, if you basicaly ask me what time i'm using that verb i'll tell you shoo away Big Grin

My english accent it's much more near the american one than the british, bloody games.

That's not really related to the topic at hand, yes?

Nor is it very solid snarky remark.

Nor does it show presence of your own manners in this field.

That's three strikes and you're out!

wut?

for me, a combination of lots and lots of playing single-player video games, and the fact that our elementary school decided to make a dialect-tax: for every word uttered in Bisaya (or Cebuano, for foreigners), we had to pay 1 Php. Most of us were "forced" to speak English, and I damn took pride in being able to speak fluently at the time. I heard some kids, however, had to pay 500 Php (or +11$ in current American Dollar Exchange Rate) before they could graduate.

Back in preschool I actually took up English as my first second language. It was very fun, the school's director was our teacher, a very strict but likable woman in her 40s. She knew how to teach, I tell you what *Hill voice*

After I got my first PC and internet connection, a friend of mine showed me to Talk City and there I found the Dark Realms RPG room. Around the same time I found Freelancer. The rest is history.

That and Cartoon Network....lots and lots and lots of Cartoon Network.

Many movies, tv series, no subtitles. Music in particular, and my best friend being as interested in it as I was. Makes great for conversations.
Then came Disco and with it, skypecalls.
