Fully reinstalling Windows Framework - sindroms - 12-10-2012 How do I do it... It seems I have some of them....and a few of them, apparently, are for 32bit systems while I am running Windows7 64x. I am annoyed, because I need to do this manually. Has anyone had to deal with this before and are there any guides out there, because in this case Google is not THAT much more helpful. Mandatory gif. RE: Fully reinstalling Windows Framework - Lux - 12-11-2012 Just to be clear, are you asking how to reinstall the operating system itself, or one of the frameworks that compose it (i.e. .NET)? If it's the former, just make sure to back up your data (to an external drive, or to another disk partition if you don't have anything else available) before going through with it. If you're installing a 32-bit copy of the OS on top of a 64-bit version, you'll probably need to reformat your Windows partition, so anything that's not backed up will be lost. There are loads of guides online for this, but Microsoft's installer does pretty much all of the legwork for you for the install process itself; all that you need to do afterwards is reinstall your apps and get everything set up the way you like it. Again assuming that you're talking about a Windows OS reinstall rather than something more obscure, it's perfectly doable to run a 32-bit OS on a 64-bit capable PC--it's just preferable to go with the 64-bit edition if your computer supports it because you get a couple strengthened security features (largely related to memory hacks) and, perhaps more importantly, access to more than just 3,2GB of addressable RAM. Of course, feel free to trounce me if that's not what you were talking about. But first I need to know how to fully uninstall the old ones. (I really don't mean to sound snarky, but I do want to point out that those are among the first in a huge number of results to a quick Google search.) |
