Server Crashes for unknown reason - Archmage - 12-22-2012

Alright, this looks to be the right place for this question.

I have the 4.86 mod installed, and can run the game and connect to other servers fine. I am able to host and connect to my own vanilla (Ver 1.0) server with no problems. (After I disabled all of the IPv6 nonsense anyway)

I have watched the following video, hoping for a solution:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKQmunKeOic
But it didn't help me with my issue =(

I'm trying to run a server for myself and a friend using 4.86.
When i try to execute "Discovery Freelancer Server" it immediately crashes...

I have been out of the FL server game for a while, its likely a stupid mistake on my part but for the life of me I'm not sure how to fix it. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks =)

(Im currently running windows vista 32bit)

Greetings friend,

When launching the discovery FLServer, are you running it directly? (not from a shortcut)

Also when it starts up, does the FLHook window also appear? (Similar to a CMD window)

When I run the Discovery Freelancer server, (Directly, no shortcuts) The server window appears for maybie a tenth of a second and then dissappears

Right.

First of all, from the comment you posted, you were not supposed to install ANY patches.
Also, make sure your Windows NET is up to date, I had to update mine in order for it to work.

Also, I suggest you either downgrade to XP or upgrade to Win7. Vista is utter crap when it comes to server hosting.

Have you tried running flserver.exe as an administrator? Don't know why it would need those rights with 4.86, but you never know. You can also run DSProcessServer that will monitor your server and restart it automatically if it crashes. Bt I would get the server running first before you go to that.

I have this exact same problem, dying to play this game with a few mates, can anyone shed any light on this fix.......did you sort it out in the end Archmage, and if so how???

RE: Server Crashes for unknown reason - Wadster - 01-13-2013

.......although i am running Windows 7 (64bit), that's the only difference.

RE: Server Crashes for unknown reason - Wadster - 01-13-2013

I clicked on the file inside the folder (rather than the desktop shortcut) that brings up the server information window (where you name the server, designate number of players allowed on the server etc). then the cmd box appears and here is a screenshot of what it says......if that helps at all....in the "attached files" below...

RE: Server Crashes for unknown reason - Wadster - 01-13-2013

.....then following that CMD screen it simply closes the program/server.

I hope someone can help or point me in the right direction, it'd be greatly appreciated.

That is a running server ready for logins. The 'error' you see has to do with the timer, but it won't prevent people from logging in.

To configure your server you can find a series of tutorials by clicking here.. It's recommnded you start with the bottom post and work your way up as they are listed in reverse order of posting. Newest first.
