A gem of a book - Sassafras - 12-25-2012 I can wander around a bookstore for hours just perusing the titles, always on the hunt for that hidden gem of a book sitting forlornly in the stacks. Today I was at the Friends of the Library bookstore at the Queen Ka'ahumanu Center. I had about 30 minutes to spare before I stepped behind a cash register at Macy's. First the cover caught my eye then I saw the author who I've loved in the past. So here (in my opinion of course) is a gem: Latro in the Mist by Gene Wolfe Book threads are fun and give me ideas to read next. So share your favorites. Sass RE: A gem of a book - Amon.Cire - 12-25-2012 Well to keep things science fiction (as I'm sure this community is into that ;p ) Ender's Game is a masterpiece. Amon, Ender's Game an all-time favorite of mine. I just saw that they're making a movie of it. RE: A gem of a book - Strichev - 12-25-2012 The Algebraist is a good book. Although it can be rather repulsive at times, I've still found it fun to read. RE: A gem of a book - Anaximander - 12-25-2012 For sci-fi, I love everything Kurt Vonnegut put his hands on. "Sirens of Titan", "Slaughterhouse-Five", "Timequake". In general, my favourite two books are Haruki Murakami's "Kafka on the Shore" and Gabriel García Márquez' "One Hundred Years of Solitude". I'm currently reading Tom Wolfe's "The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" but I haven't made it very far. All of these are good reads. RE: A gem of a book - bloogaL - 12-25-2012 The only books that have ever really grabbed me and kept me reading are those from the Discworld series. They're some really great reading. RE: A gem of a book - Rodent - 12-25-2012 I'll just drop an extreme heavyweight into this discussion. Foundation series, Isaac Asimov. I've been re-reading them a little, and they're still awesome.
