Commodity Icon artists needed - Xoria - 01-06-2013 Our Dev Team commodity icon artists have decreased their numbers to just one, and he has a lot of other things to do. We need some volunteers to create the remaining commodity icons for new commodities. The liquors and new metals have been completed, but the more sophisticated commodities still need to be done. Blodo has written up the technical requirements of this task, and you can see them below. If you are capable and willing to contribute new commodity icons, please volunteer. Please include an example of your skills, although your example does not have to be an icon image. Technical requirements of commodity icons: - must be a 64x64 square image, 24 bits per pixel, truecolour RGB, no alpha channel, uncompressed tga file - the background must be a black and grey gradient composed of colour spectrum of around #999999 to #000000 (see example picture: http://i.imgur.com/4oEej.png) - submit an exact copy of the image in png format as well in case of errors with the tga file Casualties (Leeds to Gallia) While combat injuries receive the most media coverage and public attention, casualties related to disease and accidental injury are just as devastating to a unit's combat effectiveness. While fatalities immediately lower the combat strength of a unit, casualties also impose a burden on the military's logistics network, which must transport, feed, and provide medical care to soldiers who cannot take care of themselves or contribute to the war effort until they recover from their injuries. Prompt attention to casualties usually means the difference between eventual recovery or impending death. Gallic Gate/Lane Parts (Gallia, Solar or EFL base) Gallic Jump Gates and Trade Lanes were developed by EFL and greatly improved travel throughout Gallia. While EFL handles the primary business, Solar Engineering is licensed to transport components, service existing installations, and even participates in manufacturing some components. EFL handles all new installations, and jealously guards the technological secrets that make the Gate and Lane networks function. HydroGro (Shinkaku. fertilizer for hydroponics primarily.) Samura's continuing efforts to make commercial inroads against Planetform's terraforming technology led it to develop its own brand name fertilizer. HydroGro consists of a proprietary blend of plant nutrients designed to specifically enhance production in hydroponic agriculture. While Planetform's Floragro product targets plants' biological and genetic growth factors, HydroGro is promoted as a premium fuel that plants can benefit from in the absence of soil based nutrition. Hydrogen Cyanide (PL Toulouse, Rousillon) Hydrogen Cyanide is an inorganic compound that is colorless, extremely poisonous, and has a boiling point of 26 degrees centigrade. It is a highly valuable precursor to many chemical compounds ranging from polymers to pharmaceuticals. It is a precursor to sodium cyanide and potassium cyanide, which are using in Gold and Silver mining, as well as electroplating. Jump Gate Parts (Pueblo Station) Jump Gate Parts are exclusively manufactured at the Ageira Technologies facility in the Colorado system and are delivered to individual construction sites as necessary. These components are sealed in scanner-proof, tamper-proof white boxes that can only be opened with complex biometric keys. The boxes are also designed to detonate if opened outside of an authorized facility. Additional security measures are confidential, but Ageira has never failed to recover a missing white box. Lasers (Gallia, Solar) Laser is an acronym that stands for Light Amplification by Simulated Emission of Radiation. Atoms or molecules of gases, liquids, crystals, or other materials are excited within a Laser cavity, elevating most of them to higher energy levels, while reflective surfaces in the cavity reflect energy and enable it to build up. Through a process called stimulated emission, photons with matching frequencies and phases are emitted into a directed Laser beam. Lasers are used in a wide variety of ways, including cutting metals, material heat treatment, welding, data transmission, medical treatment, scientific research, and holography. Magnets (Gallia, IDF shipping base to Solar bases) A Magnet is a material or object that produces a magnetic field, attracting ferromagnetic materials and attracting or repelling other magnets. Electromagnets are created by passing an electric current through a coil of wire. Specialized alloys and superconducting materials can be used to create extremely powerful magnets that are very small in size. Magnets are used in medicine, industry, consumer products, power generation, and are critical to the specialized functions of Jump Gates and Trade Lanes. Med-Stasis Bands (Cambridge Research) Designed especially for high casualty triage and medical treatment, Med-Stasis Bands wrap around the arm or leg of a patient. They are capable of functioning as a pressure bandage in case of wounds to the extremities, while simultaneously monitoring the patient's vital signs, and transmitting real time medical data to a remote station staffed by medical personnel. This enables staff to monitor multiple patients without physically inspecting them. The devices also are capable of administering a wide array of pharmaceuticals by remote command, according to a schedule, or in response to a medical crisis such as cardiac arrest. Marketed by Cryer as the "nurse that nevers leaves your side," the devices have been readily adopted by medical establishments stretched to the breaking point by years of warfare. Nanotubes (Gallia, Solar) Nanotubes are measured on a nanometer scale of billionths of a meter, and may be constructed from carbon, inorganic metals, and nucleaic acids. Their function is to provide a contained cylindrical path for the movement of nanoscopic particles. Nanotechnology applications include biomedicine, electronics, energy management, textiles, and nanoelectromechanical systems. Propaganda (various unlawful bases) Digital communications largely replaced printed materials in business, government, and society, but electronic communications can be tracked unless extensive, rigorous, and sometimes faulty safeguards are used to erase the digital path back to its origins. Printed propaganda material is untraceable, and also can be distributed in ways that digital media cannot, such as leaving it for others to find. It is also nominally more difficult to dispose of, since it cannot simply be erased. Royal Marines (Gallia) Royal Marines are volunteers recruited from the regular infantry and are the elite infantry forces of the Gallic Royal Navy. Tasked with the highly dangerous task of boarding hostile ships and space stations in potentially zero gravity or no-atmosphere environments, these troopers are trained to use personal rocket packs, electomagnetic boots, and pressurized space suits in addition to the normal arsenal of heavy assault weapons. When not engaged in ship-to-ship or ship-to-station assaults, Royal Marines are often deployed to the most dangerous areas of the war zone as garrison troops, riot police, and for use in other infantry maneuvers. Shape-memory Alloy (GMS, Gallia) Shape-memory Alloy is a lightweight, solid-state alternative to conventional actuators such as hydraulic, pneumatic, and motor-based systems because after being deformed through stress the material may be heated to induce it to return to its cold forged shape. Its applications include aerospace, medical, piping, communications, and robotics. Side Arms (The Ring. Daumann version of Light Arms.) Daumann focuses on two main attributes when developing its signature Side Arms: lethality and durability. From the Daumann Crowd Killer and Riot Breaker, which create high volume chaos within a short range, to the Devastator series that is renowned for its low survivability, Daumann's Side Arms are the first choice of assassins, paramilitary forces, and criminals who value the swagger earned from the weapon holstered prominently at their side. Solar Panels (Gallia, Solar) Solar Panels generate electricity from starlight in order to provide power where fuel based electrical generation is impractical or needs to be supplemented. Electrical generation from solar panels leaves no residue and minimizes energy signature, making it ideal for any operation that desires to avoid detection. Nearly all remote space stations rely on Solar Panels at a minimum for backup power generation, and many criminal bases and some Zoner Freeports almost entirely depend on them. Stabiline (Atka Research) Stabiline is produced by Cryer Pharmaceuticals through an advanced nanomanufacturing process in a zero gravity environment. The drug is a synthetic copy of essential chemical molecules that are found naturally in Cardamine, with one crucial difference: Stabiline does not create further genetic alteration in the DNA of the user. Regular doses of Stabiline may replace Cardamine intake, resulting in an addict who is no longer dependent on an illegal substance, although the pharmaceutical does not reduce the pre-existing chemical dependency, nor does it reverse previous DNA alteration. Side-effects are the same as from consuming Cardamine, although use of Stabiline does not involve a biochemical dependency unless the user is already addicted to Cardamine. Synth Gel (PL Los Angeles) Having substantially cornered the market in low cost food production with Synth Paste, Synth Foods developed Synth Gel to compete in the market for luxury foodstuffs. While using a nutrient base similar to Synth Paste, Synth Gel comes in a variety of flavors that imitate exotic foods, as well as flavors that do not exist in nature. Synth Gel also is designed as a visual delight, with many variations in color and visual texture, enabling gourmet menus that are as pleasing to the eye as to the taste. Titanium (GMS mining station) Titanium is a common metal with a wide range of applications. On its own, Titanium is highly resistant to corrosion, which has numerous advantages in chemical industries. When alloyed with other metals, the result is a good-quality alloy with a high tensile strength. Adding Titanium to Aluminium produces the Sirian standard Basic Alloy, which is in high demand throughout the colonies. A secondary application of this element is in the form of Titanium Dioxide, a bright white pigment used to colour a wide range of consumer products. Ultralloy (Gallia, GMS) Gallic Metal Service developed Ultralloy to provide Gallic Royal Navy ships with armor plating and internal structures that were strong enough to absorb damage from nuclear munitions while shielding the crew from radiation. Nickel and Tungsten provide the alloy with strength and durability, while Tantalum, Gadolinium, and Holmium create an effective shield against neutron penetration. While Ultralloy does not make a ship indestructible, it does measurably increase survivability for the crew by reducing their radiation exposure. Echo, 25/9/2013: This thread is still valid and open. The "New Name" items are the player-base-supply equivalents of their existing counterparts, and those need the icons. RE: Commodity Icon artists needed - Xoria - 01-12-2013 Icons for player base supplies are the lowest priority. Highest priority are the new commodities for the trade economy, which are not public. Provide me with an example of what you can do, and we'll go from there. There are about two dozen commodity icons for the trade economy that still need to be created. RE: Commodity Icon artists needed - Coin - 01-12-2013 got skype? i can sling a couple your way. of course, i just deleted a load last week cos i needed the space... RE: Commodity Icon artists needed - Makc_RU - 09-25-2013 Hello Guess what? I found my way here. I will be making those icons for you.
RE: Commodity Icon artists needed - Echo 7-7 - 09-25-2013 Thread pinned until all commodities have received their own unique icons. RE: Commodity Icon artists needed - Makc_RU - 09-25-2013 A-H is done. All images are also available in 128x128 .psd format. RE: Commodity Icon artists needed - Highland Laddie - 09-25-2013 Just a suggestion - maybe instead of just "Drill Bits," could it be something more....you know...futuristic? Or, you could opt for a a broader range commodity, like "Machining Equipment" or "Advanced Fabrication Equipment" or something like that. You'd think...with all those alloys floating around out there already, the machinists of the future would have no problem making their own drill-bits on-site. Drill bits just seems so......simple. It'd be like hauling a spaceship full of forks and spoons, or napkins...or toilet paper. RE: Commodity Icon artists needed - Makc_RU - 09-25-2013 Well, some planets/colonies/stations might not have the equipment to make their own poop paper or table utensils as well as drill bits for needed repairs. What if it is a medical station or listening outpost or a research station? I think it kind of falls in place. I mean look at us now, we are living in the 21st century, we still poop and use TP. |
