Games for my dad - Huhuh - 01-16-2013

My dad smashed his foot a while back and it still gives him grief when it's not elevated. This is a problem when he sits at his computer desk, and so he can only play games on his laptop while lying down.

I was wondering if anyone could suggest a slower paced game (preferably playable with one hand because playing from a lying position is uncomfortable with two hands) for him? At the moment he's stuck playing Windows Chess and Mahjong.

He's a fan of shooters (Insurgency, FEAR, Quake, Left 4 Dead) and World of Tanks, but might be open to a few of the easier RTS games (he liked AoE II way back, then he tried CoH and got slaughtered) or maybe tower defense.

He dislikes RPGs as he finds there's just too much to explore to get the fully experience (yeah he likes his games relatively simple).

Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.

Shogun/Total War is slow but fun.

Civilization too, but it's easy to get lost in if you want to explore every aspect like in many RPG games.

I've been playing planetside 2 for a couple of days and it's quite fun - the large maps and vehicle make for less of a "twitch based" shooter which is probably good if he's lying down. And it's free to play.

FarCry 3. If you play it sneaky, you've got a lot of time to scout out camps and choose a strategy that suits you. Can be very slow-paced if you choose to play it like that.

XCom. Blast from the past; slow ol' school gameplay, micromanagement and everything.

Torchlight 2. A one-armed monkey could play this game (great if you've got a decent touchpad on the laptop - the constant clicking on stuff is much nicer on your fingers when you can just tap the touchpad), and it's still fun.

Disco. Show him how to afk-powertrade for youSmile

Turn based strategy games sound like a sure bet for his current situation.

I would look on the internet for MAME - emulator.

That way he can play all the old arcade - games (10.000+ old school games)

Lots of shooters there !

Good luck & hope he gets well soon !

Warhammer 40k - Dawn of War + Winter Assault + Dark Crusade
first single player, then he could try play online

Orcs Must Die!
simple and extremely fun 'tower defence' with elements of hack & slash, shooting and magic!
