Modification of Rule 4.1 proposal - kingvaillant - 06-14-2008

(Present version) Wrote:4.1 The same character is not allowed to join more than 1 faction. Characters from one account can join different factions freely, unless faction policy specifies another rule for this, but no more than 2 system-owning factions at one time.

Proposed Version Wrote:4.1 The same character is not allowed to join more than 1 faction. Characters from one account can join different factions freely, unless faction policy specifies another rule for this.

Why?

Practically, the last part of the rule is IMPOSSIBLE to enforce or monitor. In Theory, it has no reasons to be, and Confuse most people. Most players show disregard to it because we fail to see its use and meaning.

Give your opinions please. No flames, lets keep this tread clean

It's been discussed... just ignore the rule.

I agree to this proposal, even though people aren't likely to have 3 or more factions on a single account anyways (Usually, you have at least two or three characters for a single faction on one account, for a bomber, a fighter, and whatever else you need..)

POST NUKED

I don't want to cause confusion.

Excuse me?
I remember this being discussed by players, but I don't remember an Admin saying that it could just be ignored. Such a cavalier attitude is going to get you and anyone you influence into a lot of trouble.
If you want to make such sweeping statements, then back them up by linking to a post of an Admin who says something relevant to the issue, and don't interpret it yourself...because your interpretation won't save you or anyone else from a sanction for violating a server rule.

Boss, what you said makes no sense to me at all. The rule prohibits the same character from joining two factions, so no, LPI Jim Markey cannot go join the 101st and remain a LPI.

' Wrote:Before that rule came into being, I used to have a "[AW][FF][<something else>]Korrd" character.
I voted leave it. The rule is there so a ship does not belongs to more than one faction. IT was a mess before, as two opposing factions shared members, and those members had a single ship belonging to both factions. What side will that ship side with during a battle?

As shown in this topic, post 31.

ADDED: Does it count?

Sorry, Xoria, I was reading multiple parts of it simultaneously.

Nowhere do AC_Merc or Korrd state that the second half of the rule can be ignored. Igiss may or may not change the rule in the future, but right now it has not been changed. So, no, it doesn't count.

I agree wholeheartedly with the proposed amendment. I don't really understand why the current rule is the way it is.

EDIT: Woah... I'm... I'm.... A GUNBOAT CAAAAPTAAAAIIINNN!!!! Whooo!!!!

Quote:4.1 The same character is not allowed to join more than 1 faction. Characters from one account can join different factions freely, unless faction policy specifies another rule for this, but no more than 2 system-owning factions at one time.
This rule has been misread over and over. The first part only is supposed to prevent the "taking sides" problem. However, the second part was put in place to prevent users being in *too many* system owning factions.

Quote:Characters from one account can join different factions freely, unless faction policy specifies another rule for this, but no more than 2 system-owning factions at one time.
Shall I translate? It (the second clause) means that:

[of all the characters on a given account, the player may have associations among these characters with a total of two system-owning factions.]

Example:
Let's say I have one character, a 101st character on my account, and then I open up a LSF character. Now, I could open up a third char for RepEx, but I could *not* open another char for Rheinland Military, since I'm already devoted to two system-owning factions.
