Freelancer running on a Mac? - DanBleu - 03-10-2013

I'm trying to come back after all these years and i can tell many things have change here in my RL. One of them is that now i'm a apple user only. Thus, i was wondering if theres anyway I can play using my MacBook Pro?
Any and all help would be very much appreciated.
Ty in advance

Utrack, thank you for the answer.
Maybe i'll have to buy an PC just for playing FL. lol
No way I put Parallels on my working Macbook. Thank you again, anyway.

Bootcamp or you could try the OSX port of Wine, but I can't guarantee anything (directplay worked once I think but I never got it working on linux, let alone OSX)

gravedig:

my GF saw me lurking on the forums, and asked what the game was. I showed her the freelancer intro, and a couple of the cutscenes, whereupon she announced that she'd prefer to play the game rather than just sit and watch the cutscenes.

Hallelujah.

the only fly in the ointment is that she has a mac. I really hate macs. i mean really. i just plain refuse to learn another computer system just because they've decided to be different.

However, the little lady has decided that she wants to play, so I gotta learn how to install a 'parallel' - is that mac-speak for an emulator? - and then install the disco mod.

Her MacBook runs OSX (10.6.8), she has a 2.4 ghz dual core 2 duo from intel, and 4 gb of ddr3 ram. Graphics card is geForce 320M.

any help gratefully received

FL doesn't work in Wine, at least not for me, won't even start.

I wouldn't bother running FreeLancer in a VM (Parallels, VirtualBox).

Just dual boot, after all a Mac is just a PC with a different OS.

No, it's software that lets you run a Virtual Machine, basically you run another OS within the operating system you've booted.

For example you could boot into Windows XP from within OS X.

You have to pay for Parallels, I've never used it. VirtualBox is free, and does exactly the same thing, there are plenty of guides on the internet on how to set up a VM and VirtualBox is super duper user friendly.

Personally I wouldn't bother though, running 3D apps in a VM is very buggy, it's best just to dual boot.

Here is a guide on how to dual boot on a Mac

I bought an Xbox 360 just to play GTA 5.. Its not a bad idea to invest in a PC either, as there's many uses for it besides FL.

He already has the hardware to run the game, he just needs the correct OS.

Complete waste of money buying a whole new machine to run Windows when you can run it on a Mac (which uses PC hardware anyway, so runs Windows with no problems).

You can put two OSs on a Mac (PC) easily.

hmm. so i need an iso of win 7, and an external drive to install it.

do i need the external drive all the time to switch boot system, or can i just 'alt-tab' between the two?
