Heading the trader off at the pass. - Dusty Lens - 06-19-2008 So, today I had some off trader at gunpoint and kindly requested that he offload his freight o' fellows headed to the shores of Baden Baden to luxuriate while the good people of Liberty toiled in prisons to sew wallets for the LPI. His return was that I, according to my ID was prohibited from demanding cargo from him. As it does clearly state that my ID says that I cannot demand cargo from passing traders. Now, this left me in a quandary, one I puzzled over whilst reducing his vessel to their base components as he squawked for help. In the long long ago when I, cautious fellow that I am about server rules and avoiding the allmighty sanction, was first starting off as a Xeno wanted to find out what could or could not be done I inquired with our fine admin team as to if it would be allright if we Xenos demanded our targets drop their cargo instead of simply killing them, as it opened more possibilities for roleplay in my eyes. As said trader went up in a flash of light, he promised that he would see me on the forums. Cheeky fellow! Now, I'm curious, until our ID is amended in the next version (hopefully) would you folks prefer that we in the XA abandon requesting cargo and instead maintain a lifestyle of halting yon trader, keeping them still while we have our rant and then killing them, or barring that simply killing them the moment they appear unwilling to sit still? I would hate to think that we're being unreasonable by providing another opportunity to let you off the hook with your life and ship intact. An independent Xeno attacked the Border Worlds Transport Cerulean without a word the other day, and died likewise. I think this is one of the areas where the ID and purpose of the faction are at direct odds; one of the focuses of the Xenos (correct me if I'm wrong here, please) is intercepting foreign shipping, isn't it? But if you're not allowed to demand cargo or credits, you're left with - as you said - simply ranting and then destroying the trader. Not fun for anyone involved, since I'm assuming you're a little more skilled than your incompetent friend from the other day, the trader wouldn't have much of a chance at all, you'd be even less likely to get any RP out of them, and neither side would be able to call it a fair fight. Granted, that would make more sense in character, but RP exists to be fun for both sides, and this almost certainly wouldn't be. I say keep doing as you have been since you have admin approval. I also recommend seeing if you can get a pinned topic made about this until the ID gets revised, and point any complaints to that post. Also, rules-lawyering to get out of RP? Not cool. Heading the trader off at the pass. - Dusty Lens - 06-19-2008 *chuckles* Honestly, I wasn't entirely sure what his ultimate goal was. Demanding that I refrain from requesting he drop his cargo rather whittled down the paths that our interaction was going to take. Mighty curious. But, yes, one of the primary goals of the Xenos as a whole is to cutoff all foreign shipping, be that coming into or going out of Liberty in order to solve social crisis Zed. To that end I reasoned that demanding that traders drop their cargo would provide a charming means of accomplishing that goal without simply running around blowing everything up. Demanding a trader drop his cargo is a pretty stiff demand, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little slower with my shooters and CD's with fellows who dish out some red hot RP than those who simply engage cruise time and time again in some curious race with my stock of train disruptors while screaming "sanction" or "stop" in local. Heading the trader off at the pass. - Jinx - 06-19-2008 destroying is not everything - gaians are terrorists, too. but they do not destroy spa and cruise ships. - they terrorize them. they damage them, make their journeys expensive and unpleasent for the passengers. - there is no need to demand cargo if you don t want to - just don t destroy the ship you fire at - leave it with no turrets at 10% health and then let it go. thats terrorizing. - but then, no one ever asked for gaians to gain a terrorist status, as they are at least half pirates, half terrorists. not all is black and white - its not allways about leaving them be or killing them. its perfectly fine for xenos to damage each foreign ship untill they choose another route. - and you can do it within the general rules. - as long as you don t kill, you have a free go. Heading the trader off at the pass. - beander2 - 06-19-2008 Dusty, I don't know about the ID point, but as part of a trading faction, I think it make total sense for Xenos to demand cargo. The point is to disrupt foreign trade, and that seems to be the most direct - and symbolic - way of doing it. That said, I wouldn't always demand all cargo, but enough to make the run expensive. Demanding all is going to simply prompt the trader to say "Are you kidding?" and refuse, returning everybody to point A without much RP. Otherwise, for whatever it's worth, I think it's totally appropriate. Heading the trader off at the pass. - Capt. Henry Morgan - 06-19-2008 Of course we're going to demand all cargo. If we didn't take it all, we wouldn't be doing a very good job disrupting foreign trade, would we? Of course, I have yet to see a trader actually comply with the demand, but we do try. I fully sympathise. :( Heading the trader off at the pass. - Jamez - 06-19-2008 Some smartass told me I couldn't demand his CONTRABAND on my LSF char(with tag/ID). Uh, are you kidding me? Drop it, or i'm gonna open fire. Don't try and rule-lawyer out of the unstoppable force of justice(me). It's EXTREMELY annoying. And yeah, I got the remark about getting reported... blah blah blah. If I get sanctioned for doing my job, I may have to seriously consider whether I stay here. /endrant Heading the trader off at the pass. - deepak - 06-19-2008 Interesting piece of thread guys. I would love to see an interesting and refined role play by xenos rather then simply left with the choice of destroying the ship only. Since i trade in Liberty space as well, i get left with no choice then 2 run just as soon i get xeno player on my scanner nomatter how far they are. Now the big question is, what do the admins think. At the end of the day you dont want to break the rule and get fined for something that may notbe in the manual.:) StingFellow.Hawk Heading the trader off at the pass. - Kuraine - 06-19-2008 Quote:Xeno Terrorist ID Just posting this for reference. This is the ID proposal I created (along with revising all the other IDs) and sent them in to Igiss and Treewyrm for reviewing and coding up. With luck you might yet see them all in 4.85. But I wouldn't hold your breath either :/ Either way, as far as i'm concerned I have no issues with the Xenos demanding cargo and not credits. I believe the Xenos can demand credits currently though? Just not cargo. |
