Why does one use the English term (Munich vs München/Muenchen) and the other the German term (Koeln vs Cologne)?

This irritates me to no end. Am I the only one?

http://discoverygc.com/wiki/L%C3%BCbeck_Border_Station (that's a vanilla station, fyi)

We should also decide on whether to use Umlaute or not. But yeah, anyway, I'm always for using the German names, seems weird to me to call it "Munich". I don't say "Neu York" either.

Heh, totally forgot about Lübeck. Since Umlauts are possible, they should definitely be used as they were in vanilla.

Personally, I think it makes sense to use the English terms when possible -thus, Cologne-, but either way, it should be consistent.

Hm, true. Never noticed before.

Planet Stuttgart should then be called Planet Karlsruhe.

What?

Anyway, also noticed how not a single vanilla system was named after a place in Rheinland...?
To me, calling Köln "Cologne" just feels wrong. It's Rheinland. Kyushu is also called Kyushu and not "Nine Provinces" or such...

only problem with being consistent is that we're not consistent to begin with. (as in, English picks and chooses). but yeah, koeln is a bit weird, especially when cologne is so well known too

Out of all the things on Disco, a simple name is the thing that irritates you the most?

You've got to be kidding...

I never said it's the thing that irritates me the most.

I just said it irritates me greatly. Which I'm not ashamed of.

My theory is that it's because they were made by different people at very different times.

And I could be very mistaken, but I was under the impression that new names with letters with any markings couldn't be added for some weird technical reason? And that's why only vanilla ones are spelled as such.
