This comment isn't related to Pokemon but...:
You know Sindroms, if you like Pokemon but want something that's a bit darker and has better plot, I highly suggest you play a Shin Megami Tensei game. The gameplay is highly similar to pokemon, different SMT games have different types of gameplay however. For example the main SMT games play very similar to pokemon, but the Devil Survivor games are TBSes.
Back to pokemon:
Like I said, you could always grind 8|
That and I just got to the ghost tower and found that I cannot access the last room....
I can't see the damn ghost because I need some sort of doobable which I apparently needed to steal from team widdlebiscuit.

Are you able to buy great balls yet? If not no worries, I'm pretty sure that if you go back to route 1 and throw pokeballs at the lv2-3 Pidgey and Rattata you will catch one quickly enough, no damage required. Then you can start your journey with your new friends from there...
EDIT: Actually are you able to get back yet? If I remember right, you can't head backwards through Mt Moon due to a ledge so you have to take Digletts Cave. I guess your not there yet.
Doesnt matter, all you have to do is go further on and youll meet higher level pokes to catch. Also Sindroms take my advice,relax about the ghost, go gambling...
