I came across this one a week or so ago and I am hooked on it.
The basic premise of the game is a little different to your typical space game - in that you build your own ships and stations before piloting. Think of it as a merger of Garrys Mod/Freelancer/Minecraft/Kerbal Space Program and you will be on the right tracks.
The game is in Alpha. So it is nowhere near finished yet. Think of it in its current state as a kind of "demo" or "preview" of the basics. Even still, it is great fun to mess around in and I reccommend it to anyone with a creative mindset. Check out this for a list of current features and planned stuff.
The physics and ship handling are superb. Ships can literally be torn in two. Metal gets broken and twisted with great effect. The handling of your ship is all down to how you design it. And you can design anything you want, from small fast fighters, to massive capital ships and space stations.
A search on you tube will show you just a few of the truly wondrous creations people have made.
Now, I know this is not going to be for everyone, but I thought I would mention it as it is really enjoyable and some of you may like it.
That said I've seen this game and I will say what I have said before to people that get it, watch development VERY carefully.
The last game this developer made took a MASSIVE tangent from its intended course. They pretty much had all the mechanics down and then rewrote half the game.
The rare sub-species of human that gives out info that nobody actually cares about...

Sound advice. I have never played anything else created by this developer before. It is shaping up to be a very good game though. I urge you to check it out if you are the least bit interested.
