The quartermaster finished his coffee and rubbed his tired eyes.
He went through the huge amount of messages.
"Reports, reports, reports, small claims court,.. (he forwarded the last one to its rightful location), reports again.."
Then came one that worried him. It came directly from management and was marked important. That was never good. He sighed and opened..

Quote:Dear Aryn
We hope this message finds you well.
We are contacting you in regards to a recent decision, that may directly affect some of your subordinates and the SWAT operatives.
Our accountants have reviewed the files quite a few times, and it seems our margin of safety is diminishing. Since the margin of safety is directly connected with the output of the service, the first course of action would be to deploy more operatives and craft. However, when they did the cost-volume-profit analysis, it turned out the total costs incurred would rise substantially, and unfortunately not in proportion with profit. Long story short, after some investigation, it turned out some of the costs we usually consider sunken, can be avoided. The new decision, that directly involves you, is to replace some of the actively flying and all of the non-flying SWAT and non-SWAT Li-117 Liberty "Upholder" Bombers with a much cheaper, Civilian design - WAR-4b "Waran" Civilian Bomber. The benefits are, that we can virtually supply unlimited amounts of cheap parts, thus dropping the costs for maintenance. Considering the frequent damages, shown in reports, the cost cutting will be rather effective here. The actual vessels are relatively cheap and available as well.
All repair works on the damaged (slightly and severely) Upholders has already halted. Some of the new bombers have been already ordered from independent contractors. Your task is to inspect, test and allocate the new ships.
Kind regards,
Management.

For a second he thought this might have been another one of those "fire people" email. He was relieved actually. He opened the file attached to the message

"They don't look that bad."
He sighed, stood up, stepped outside his office and headed towards the nearest vending machine.
