Red Alert 2 was fantastic. Still is.
C&C3 seems far far too fast paced compared to the others and basically seems to just be a 'Who can fling the first lot of tanks at each other?'
Even Generals, which was a very very good game for what it was, had better tactics than that. (I <3 my Scud launchers)
' Wrote:How can we be worried about fighting battles on other planets? The blasphemy of EA against our space-fairing games cannot go unanswered!
(and I thought Americans spoke English not... American...)
I watched the video & it was very obvious to me that it was made 'tounge in cheek'
They were trying to be funny...sure, they could have tried harder, but still:mellow:
' Wrote:heh, i havent played C&C since Tiberium Sun.
That was oldschool... westwood-made.
I miss my underground-burrowing flamethrower tanks.
Good old devils tongues, I was always getting rushed by them. The NOD players always laughed until I airdropped a Mammoth MKII in the middle of their base. Then a squad of Disprupters comes charging through their bases gate. Fun stuff.
I cannot wait for RA3. I figure it can't suck as much as RA2 did. CNC3 was a blast, I loved playing it. And the fact that EA got Joseph Kucan back (Because let's face it... C&C is nothing without Kane), made me love the game even more. I thought gameplay was incredibly fun, the storyline was awesome, the videos of course were pretty good as far as video games go(Westwood never managed to make very good cutscenes either...). The DRM doesn't bother me. Didn't bother me on Spore, didn't bother me on Crysis, and it doesn't bother me on Steam.
I'm gonna have a blast with RA3.
As long as EA doesn't touch Dune, we're good. And if they do touch it, god help them, it better be goddamn amazing.
*sigh* If you're alright with them constantly reproducing the same series and plot that's been going nowhere since RA2 then fine, I guess.. I won't hold it against you. You're ok with digital restrictions management? Fine. As long as you don't go on to say it's a good thing. I draw the line at Steam though. It goes against the 4th amendment on the gamer's bill of rights. "Gamers shall have the right to demand that download managers and updaters not force themselves to run or be forced to load in order to play a game."
Battle for Dune was done by Westwood. EA published it. That was all.
Battle for Dune still remains one of my favourite RTS game. Such a blast.
And as for that Gamer's Bill of Rights..
Quote:1) Gamers shall have the right to return games that dont work with their computers for a full refund.
No. There's system requirements for a reason. If they don't know what their computer is able to handle, they should buy a console.
Quote:2) Gamers shall have the right to demand that games be released in a finished state.
I agree with this one. And the games released in an unfinished state usually bomb horribly. Age of Conan, for one. Funcom screwed up on that one.
Quote:3) Gamers shall have the right to expect meaningful updates after a games release.
Meaningful updates meaning... Patches? Or added content? Because depending on the game, I'd say people shouldn't expect meaningful content, and should be happy if they get it. MMO's should get added content, it's an ever changing world. But for some games there's no need. A lot have modding tools these days, and people can create their own content.
Quote:4) Gamers shall have the right to demand that download managers and updaters not force themselves to run or be forced to load in order to play a game.
This one's a personal opinion. I for one love Steam, and if I can get a game on Steam without having to go to the store, I'm happy.
EDIT: I should also add that I keep Steam running whenever my PC is on. I love looking through the news on it, I use their "friends list interface" to organize games with tons of my TF2 buddies, and it makes it incredibly easy to find what I want to play.
Quote:5) Gamers shall have the right to expect that the minimum requirements for a game will mean that the game will play adequately on that computer.
Gamers shouldn't expect "minimum requirements" to allow the game to run on high. Other then that, there's usually no problem.
Quote:6) Gamers shall have the right to expect that games wont install hidden drivers or other potentially harmful software without their consent.
Not disagreeing here.
Quote:7) Gamers shall have the right to re-download the latest versions of the games they own at any time.
Steam allows this.
Quote:8) Gamers shall have the right to not be treated as potential criminals by developers or publishers.
Meh. I haven't had any problems with any of the DRM software, whether it be SecuROM or Steam. There's always gonna be *******s out there who will do whatever they can to crack a game. And as sad as it sounds, there's always hundreds of gamers that download that cracked game and say, "Oh, I'll buy it when I have a chance", and never do.
Quote:9) Gamers shall have the right to demand that a single-player game not force them to be connected to the Internet every time they wish to play.
Get with the times. If you have a computer able to run these games, you have internet access.
Quote:10) Gamers shall have the right that games which are installed to the hard drive shall not require a CD/DVD to remain in the drive to play.
Every game I've bought recently hasn't needed the CD/DVD in the drive to play. Makes me pretty happy. Although it wasn't a big deal before. So I had to switch CDs every once in awhile. It happens.
