I tried it several times with my CD copy and they never worked the crack is so you don't require the CD to run it. I only wrote this because these were the steps i had taken to get mine running if you have other methods then thats great i'm only adding what i did to get it working hopefully it will work for other to so.

Man @evanz you really have no idea what you are talking about, right? If your solution is such a workaround and working just for everyone, why didn't you post it earlier on, probably with credits to the source
You should really try to think before posting, a simple reason for this would be that every machine is different, yeah? Because one solution did work for 100 people doesn't mean it will work for another 100.
PerfOptions.ini can be a legitimate reason that the game won't run. Downloading a crack is neither wrong...
PerfOptions.ini is the main file to change the game settings, often times it occurs that the Game doesn't have required permission(s) to create the file completely and thus bug-out: tells you to restart your machine. The game is quite old and for some reason I think, the most guys here switched to something above XP, right?

One big indicator for me, saying that you didn't read this thread in deep is the post of your solution just after the OP told us he would have found a suitable solution. Also, where is the credit to your source?

well 1st of all, it was late and i didnt read it properly as i was a little mashed, and it looked like it was a similar problem to a reply that i DID post many months back

Okay so its been several months since i posted this to help myself and others run freelancer discovery so you don't get the "cannot Detect 3D g-card problem". If people are still having that problem then don't worry there is a easier way of doing it.

Go to this thread on the discovery forums and follow the guide:

I'm going to also post the steps here so you don't need to read all the text.

1, Completely remove freelancer and discovery from your computer.

2, Install freelancer via CD or ISO.
(No Crack or CD needed)

3, Download discovery from the link.
(This may be outdated later down the line so just look for the latest copy of Discovery on the forums)

4, After you've installed freelancer and downloaded discovery, install discovery.
(You do not need to restart your pc or laptop)

5, Launch Discovery not the freelancer.exe after it has been fully installed.
(you do not need to leave the CD in your computer it should run automatically thanks to the developers of Discovery)

6, Wait for the launcher to patch or download the required files, select the setting you want "e.g. Windowed mode and so on."

7, Launch game and have fun,

For some reason if you want to just play freelancer without mods you can't because the latest versions of windows and the high tech G-cards don't support the game anymore because the game is out dated. The only way to be able to play freelancer is with Discovery or other mods that make the game Capable with wins vista/7 and so on.

*I may be wrong there might be other ways of playing the game without using the mod but for now that's the only way i know how to*

What you need to do is find the updated version of the flconfigdatabase and upload it into the exe folder. When Mine pops up I just tell it to piss off and go about my business. The vanilla version is almost completely dependent upon that file, although once you step on the core install with discovery it'll never happen.
The key is that file, also finding the NoCD file that exudes the exe file so you don't have to run with the CD in the box. Looking for that one too if I want to roam the original storyline this go around.
