OK, i have a question for all you smart guys out there.
My internet speed. what i pay for, is 758kb per second. BUT........
When i'm downloading something, the fastest it ever downloads is like 80-90kb per second.
So, tell me why this happens, i wish to know.
Also, is there a way that i could increase the download speed to the speed that i pay for?
Divide both numbers by eight separately gives you:
32KB/s Down / 16KB/s UP
--
Divided by 8 your connection should go at roughly: 94.75KB/s
Your ISP displays the connection as Kb, because they can leagally make the reading look bigger because the unit of measure they are using is smaller than the common unit of measure when downloading a file in a web browser, if that made any sense at all.
In other words your web browser measures your download speed as KB not Kb ( B = BYTE / b = BIT )
Hope this helps:cool:

also keep in mind that servers and distance from the internet cloud may have an issue.
Some servers restrict how fast you can pull something from them to save their bandwidth.
the amount of distance from the internet cloud is called hops. most home networks are in excess of 4hops from the internet. I have had and seen some that were in excess of 20 hops before hitting the internet itself. then take into account how many hops the server is from the internet.
Hops= how many routers your call goes through. for some the first hop is from their computer to their modem, then it counts from your modem to your ISP provider, their routers, where you get sent to then eventually to the internet.
Yea, Less hops means a better over all ping and speed.
If there is alot of traffic within your ISP, say...In peak hours, expect your connection to go significantly slower than usual.
I am on an 8Mb/8Mb connection, and I get a ping of 130 to a server in In Auckland. 80Km away from where I live.
For comparison, I get a ping of 80 to 100 to Australian servers every other hour:dry: I get a ping of 9 to 13 to the Auckland server if it isn't peak time. So I work my downloads and internet time around peak traffic.
