Look there is no need for that. Im English for your knowledge and that was totally un-provoked.
Im offended by that, please do not say something like that again,

back to what you said... MMORPG's are not getting old, yes they are all roughly the same... but you shouldn't have a go at people who enjoy them, i myself play a couple of them... and with the expansion of lotro, im very much looking forward to it. Runescape is a old game, and is frankly rubbish.

EDIT: Zygoeths. stop doing one word replies, this isnt in flood.

Sorry if i offended you, but i was talking about the runescape company, not all british people themselves XD. Britian is one of the best, in modern times, countries in the world, through my eyes anyway.

The thing with any RPG is that, in order to make it open ended, it generally needs to be set in a fantasy world. This is because most RPGs have some aspect of conflict, usually of the violent nature, and, in a historical setting, the only way to get into violent conflict is to be a soldier...not the best roleplaying option (soldiering mostly consisting of "go there" "do that". sure, it's good for a one-off, but not as a staple).

The problem, of course, is to make "your" fantasy world different from everyone else's. Some games do this very well, Freelancer being one of them (part of the reason I love it), but some do it not so well, and you end up playing the same game over and over and getting bored.

MMO's do make me sad these days.

The single greatest one I've ever played was Dransik. That was before they got bought out by Iron Fist or whatever and named it Ashen Empires. *sigh* They butchered that game.

Anyways, the biggest problem is that they're all the same. Every single one.

"A war has corrupted the lands between a blatantly drawn line of good and evil, but for the sake of this introductory cinema, we'll make it appear more obscure. The two sides fought for centuries, staining the once beautiful rolling hills of -Insert name for the land that starts with A here- with an irreversible decay the likes of which we saw coming fifty years into the war. You are the next great hero! You will grow up and join the war and turn the tides. But whose side will you choose? Ah, excellent! Now, to the front! But, for the first <strike>300 hours of wasted life</strike> leg of your epic journey, you shall fight rats and goblins and make your home city a cozier place by sweeping chimneys and cutting logs! Tally ho! The world... Awaits!"

Above all else, EVE brings tears to my eyes. Between LOLWUTs and click. Click. Click click. Double click. Right click engage. Right click set distance of <strike>epic</strike> ratational battle. Right click select which weapon to use. Right click set speed of rotation. Watch for 30 seconds.

But one man........ who must spend all of the time he should be studying fishing with a NET! HOOAH!!!! CHAAAAAAAARGE. BUT CAREFUL, PISRINE THE PIRATE IS PISSED OFF, HES GONNA KILL YA AAAAAAAAARGE!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGE! HES A BAD EVIL PIRATE WITH A DRAGON AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGE!"

The problem is that every single MMO nowdays is trying to follow World of Warcraft in design... and frankly, despite being so 'successful', WoW sucks. It gives zero player freedom, zero player-created environment, zero player customization, etc; and on top of it there's zero RP because the developers didnt allow room for it.

The entire game is driven by grinds. Quest grinds, Rep grinds, Cash grinds, PvP grinds, instance/raid grinds, etc. They try to make the game as time consuming as possible to get as much money from you as they can.

Now, if more games would start following the Pre-CU Starwars: Galaxies design, where EVERYTHING was up to the players, I think more people would enjoy them. SWG let you completely customize your character, your equipment, your house, your ship, and you could even have entire player-made cities. There were no quests or raids or instances/dungeons - everything was open world with a player-driven storyline, and RP was extremely dominant there.

In WoW, even hinting at RP gets people /loling at you. In SWG, you would start RP'ing without even realizing that you were, because the game was that immersive.

I'm really hoping bioware doesnt make the new Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO like WoW and all these other failure MMO's -_-
