Good evening everyone,
My name is Misterich and this is my first post in the forum. First I want to say that I am playing the mod now about three to five years beginning with "the exiles" Version.
I like Freelance since the first time I have played and love this mod even more. I do not play regulary - sometimes even not for month and just come online shorty for not losing my chars. Maybe some of you have seen 1 or 2 of my posts at wiki.
---------------------
Now to the topic that made me so madly that I created this forum-account. Minging-Places.
I have not played Freelancer for a longer time and return playing a bit the last day. One of my favourite acitivities is mining with my old BMM miner named Wilhelm. Once I created this miner as a BMM-Niob miner that worked in Leeds. After Leeds got lost I started to mine gold in Dublin. Now I wanted to mine Gold in Dublin BMM-Gold-Field, but nothing happend. I checked my position on map, but I still was in the right mining are at F7. First I thought I would be a bug, so I tried again on next day. Nothing. No more gold ore.
Then I checked the system with the internet discovery Navmap (btw a really nice thing! good work dev team!) and found out that gold can now mined in Londerry and IMG-field only. Great. My BMM-Goldminer is now good for nothing because as BMM I am not allowed to work in IMG field. But it became worse.
I went to Manchester to mine Raw-Hydrocarabon, the only remaining ore in Bretonia that has some real value to me. Next I found out that raw Hydrocarabon seems to be deleted. There is also no wiki article anymore. Well one ore in Bretonia ist left for a BMM miner I thought; Beryilium at the BMM field next to Bristol. This time I looked up by disco navmap first. Also here the posibility of mining has been removed. Now I must use the IMG field at Cardiff. Great. Now I have a BMM miner that could mine Niob, Gold, Beryilium and raw Hydrocarabon but all legal mining places are removed. What is this miner good for now, except nothing? What could a BMM Miner now do except suecide or illegal mine.

I have even looked up the other mining places and found out that there are now just a little few mining places for each ore. No Diamonds in Dresden. Ok system is nearly out mined and very danger but why removing? BMM and Molly gold field without any gold? Leeds asteroids have no niob either. Platinium can be mined in Kusari now, so Liberty lost its only ore. Helium ist now only getable in Sigma 19 so that pirating in Okinawa is pointless for Hogosha and make the fraction even more blandly. At least my Aluminer in Koeln needs a new field two, because Alu ist now a gallic ore.
Sorry, but this is the only change in Disco of all I now, that I really, really dislike. I cannot understand why this has been done and I would like to see that this will be undo soon.

Sounds like you haven't logged since the last "Mining Update".

While I'm not sure about the Dublin fields, I can tell you that Platinum is still mineable in both Liberty (Alberta) & Kusari and Aluminum is mineable in both Munich AND Picardy, so I'm not sure what you're referring to there.

But you may want to check out the Mining Update thread. The first post highlights all the changes that were implemented.

I know very well that the new mining system can be confusing for someone who come back to the mod only now but you can adapt very quickly.

First, in Dublin really only one field exist but it is not belongs to IMG but actually a fully independent field where anyone who want can mine. I know that the name can be confusing but now you know that you can go there.

Also the only mineable Uncut Diamond field is in omega-11 but you can mine Platinum both in Alberta and Nagano. Aluminium is mineable in both Munich and Picardy but the Munich one has much better drop rate.

Because two people say somethign about Platinium and want to explain what I mean.
Earlier ore was minebale at many places but there were just one or two where it is was good to mine that ore. This make this one ore special for that Place. Gold Ore ist just minable in Bretonia and bring profit everywhere. Platinium is the only ore in Liberty and that is what I do not like. People that want to trade between Kusari and Liberty cannot trade with ore well, because Kusari has got the same ore. Platium brings no profit in Kusari and Liberty, so a ore trade route is not possible and miners get less customers.
Same is with Alu in Rheinland and Galia.
Btw: Why is Humbolt still a good mining place?! It is one of the stupidest system in disco and could be removed, because it is isolated and only reachable thought guard system or long empty system. At least Humbolt is a LR only system so that no miner is able to mine here.

As I understand, the reduction of number of active mining fields is aimed to increase activity and interactions between players within and around the fields. Apparently leaving 2 active mining locations in Humbolt has the same purpose: make players cooperate and group into convoy with escorts to get there and back alive and with profit.

And even then my own experience so far is that you can spend an hour in a field all alone. I imagine that if all fields remain active, I would never see another miner/hauler in these three months.

Field centralisation is needed.
At the moment, the problem is that the mining update stopped half way.
Fields were switched off (like: only 1 in 3 gives you ore), but the fields have not been merged into a large, central field where everybody can go.

The aim in the reduction of mining fields of course is to make more interaction possible.

This is a multi player game. It is only good when there is interaction.

I know that the status is confusing (with lots of fields everywhere, that give you no ore but show on the map). There is not even a development report that is correct (the thread in here is not any more). So... it is basically: trial and error and the current state of mining is highly disappointing.

You usually need to mine in a small area around a buoy, which (the area) is more yellow than the general mining field borders, in navmap.

As for Dresden, I don't think you could ever mine diamonds there, at least never for as long I am here.
