Arata Riken, Director of HAMSI

Hajimemashite, Miss Flora. My name is Arata Riken, the main Director of the Kusari based Hisakawa Applied Military Sciences Institute, or HAMSI.

You contact has been forwarded to me by Samura Ren Kobayashi-san, on the matter of Samura specialist scientists in the fields of Chemistry, Exobiology and Xenobiology, among others. He gave a very positive recommendation regarding your skills, and your papers on the topics of alien lifeforms and biological systems are indeed of unique quality.

The Hisakawa Institute is currently reorganizing his research teams in the fields you explore, and bolstering our numbers with experienced researchers has been a prime objective in our current fiscal year. Our laboratories dealing with exobiology and related fields are in close collaboration with the Naval Forces, and provide the most secured and hassle free conditions to study of foreign organisms and their functions.

The HAMSI would like to extend an offer to you Miss Flora, to integrate our research efforts in a full or part time capability, depending on your availability. Of course, it is needless to say that research grants, lab and equipment clearance provided is exponentially higher if we could have the pleasure of your full attention.

Take some time to consider our offer, and settle any pending matters you may feel to conclude. We will be waiting for your decision.

Until then,
Arata Riken, Director of Hisakawa Applied Military Sciences Institute

Good day, Riken-san.

I have to admit that the offer is indeed a tempting one. I never really had a chance to work with a science institue before. I can assure you I will thoroughly think over your proposal. I'd like to ask a question first, however.

I'd like to know what exactly does the Institute need my expertise for. Kurile? Saigon? Miyazaki? Or, perhaps, something more... Exotic?

Hope to hear from you soon enough.

Hello once again, Flora-san. I appreciate your timely response, and apologize for the delay in my reply.
You pose a pertinent question. While planetary biosphere and environmental studies are always of paramount importance, more often than not they fall out of the scope of the HAMSI mission. There might be occasions in the future where House safety might revolve around the accurate analysis of said planets, but it is not so at this current stage.

As you inferred, our studies in exobiology and related fields deal with the more exotic aspect of it that can be found in the wide space. Don't want to misled you about specific topics, but I can say that, for example, biological warfare and countermeasures for our ships and crew are always in a need of constant evaluation and development.
More details about current projects are unfortunately unable to be presented due to several factors.

With cordial regards,
Arata Riken, Director of Hisakawa Applied Military Sciences Institute

Riken-san...

Biological warfare and countermeasures for ship crews out in deep space? I can already see where it's going.
Paint me interested. There's never enough countermeasures for this kind of threats.
I have a rather sizeable thing to wrap up out here. Once it's done, which should take under a month in the worst case, I'll give you a call and we'll be able to iron out the details.

Have a good day.

Hello again, Riken-san.

I'd like to inform you that I have resolved all my pending matters and am free to continue our conversation.
There are still a few things I'd like to ask about. Where would my working place be located? What would be my working conditions? What kind of pay can I expect?

I hope to hear from you soon.

Greetings Flora-san, it is good to hear from you again. I am glad that we are able to proceed with our discussion now without any other pressing matters on the mind.

Our research with exotic biological samples and related fieldwork is based and coordinated from Kansai research station, where our labs operate in close relationship with the other Kishiro installations and the KNF command and administration.
Employers like to say that their workplace has the best conditions on the market, but few can say like us that the installations have just been renovated to top condition.

You will also find the opportunity to incorporate into any field expedition that the lab group requires to perform, as well as being eligible for research grants to support any solo travels that you may do while working on our behalf.

Regarding payment, we are offering researcher wages of comparable value to most Kishiro or Samura teams, for reference. On one hand we are not running a profit or commercially minded project here, so the usual performance requirements and bonuses are smaller than the competition. On the other hand, discretion and security measures are among the highest possible, so there is something in the paycheck to ease the burden.

These are very general terms of the matters you have asked. I send you in annex a file with common financial details and some of the conditions you will find on our Non-Disclosure Agreement.

With cordial regards,

Riken-san.

I've read through your file and, well... The numbers suit me just fine and the non-disclosure terms are fully acceptable.
I don't really have any other questions. Consirder your offer accepted. I should arrive in Kusari within a few days.

Oh, one more thing. As far as my knowledge goes, Kansai is a rather restricted facility. I doubt it's a place you'd like me to be at day one. May I know where should I head to in order to get started?

Most excellent news. If arriving on a commercial flight or on your own vessel, we will be waiting for you on dock 3, and from there guide you to our facilities within the installation. Contract and credentials will be settled once you join us at the lab. Please advise our front desk on the date of arrival.

Safe flight, and welcome to HAMSI.
