Hola, Senor Locklear.

My name is Colonel Maria Cortez. I am currently acting as the foreign representative for the 72nd Fleet while Commander Santiago is busy preparing for the Fleet's next operation against Gallia. While the Fleet and the Commonwealth have had a rough relationship, I will say that it has been more-or-less 'positive' for the most part.

However, I will skip to the focus of this transmission. Several months ago, I believe you inquired to Commander Santiago about a possible cooperative effort in regards to the Fleet's science division. While this is relatively old news compared to recent events, Commander Santiago has kept this inquiry near the top of the Fleet's agenda. Due to our past reforms within the Fleet, including the 'Reaper Scare', we were unable to focus on outside efforts without guidance.

Now that the Fleet has regained its strength, and the required manpower to see our goals come alive, we believe now is as good a time as any to attempt at this cooperative effort. I will leave this channel open to you or any representative of the Legion, should you not be available, as well as to discuss the arrangement of this effort.

I do hope that this cooperative deal will help to secure and maintain both of our people's peaceful natures between one another. Only cooperation breeds success in times such as these.

I look forward to your response, Lord Commander.

Regards,
Colonel Maria Cortez, Task Force Pacientia, Maltese 72nd Fleet.

Hola, Senorita Cortez. The Hispanic tongue is foreign to me, so pardon my poor command of the language. I spoke with the captain of the MNS Aurora briefly - Santiago I believe - and opted to escort him out of California to a location the Legion was more inclined to ignore it rather than attempting to capture the vessel or leave its wreckage scattered across the system.

If you know anything about the Legion or the Commonwealth at all, then I'm sure you know this isn't standard protocol when dealing with foreign warships of a hostile flag. I was given good reason to spare the Aurora, and that's because the 72nd's modus operandi was anything but the norm for a Maltese organization. You don't see the K'Hara as gods, and you don't seem to share your colleagues opinions on the nature of Cardamine.

Before we can consider any kind of partnership however, I need to know more about what distinguishes you from the rest of the Nación. What do you stand for, and why? It's going to take a lot to sell the Legion on the prospect of working with your kind, so I suggest you put a good deal of effort into your reply, Colonel.

Lord Commander Samuel Locklear, Hellfire Legion

Hello again, Senor Locklear.

It is understandable your lack of grasp for the Hispanian dialect. Not many outside the realm of the Nación or the Southern Crete Empire can hold such a strong grasp.

However, dialect and grammar is not the focus, I apologize. The crew and people aboard the Aurora still hold compassion towards the Legion for your act of mercy. This itself is the driving reason for the Commander's wish to continue these efforts. In his place, I'll do my best to provide as much clearance as possible.

The 72nd Fleet is not a mere fleet of warships. Indeed, not even one focused on warfare in general. The Fleet is a building block. A new foundation for the reformed government of Malta. A new way for the Maltesian people to live in harmony and relative peace in these drastic times.

We are not the Nación. The Nación you know of is filled with misguided layabouts who would see the rest of Sirius burn in the fire of their 'crusade'. They would see all but the 'true Maltese' in their eyes burned at the stake and pulled swiftly into the vacuum of space, halting any attempt to stall or even stop their progress.

The 72nd Fleet, which will lay the groundwork for the New Republic of Malta, is a sort of oppositionary force. We don't condone the killing of our fellow Maltesians. Due to the 'orange dream', the Maltesian life is precious. Long lasting, but also special. However, should acts become violent, the Fleet will not accept defeat.

You wish to know what distinguishes us from the Nación? What drives us to further our goals?
Honor.

The Fleet was founded upon the basis of Honor, upon the idea that every life is both sacred and free, and earns the right to be judged on their actions simply by acting. Force, ironically, is not our focus in this conflict. Instead, the goal of seeing the Maltesian people living free under a government that would see their dreams come true is our weapon. Not a government of the elitist few, but one of the people.

I hope I have shed at least some life in my... rather drawn out rant. I suppose I have the Commander to thank for that.
Either way, this will at least give you some clue as to what the Fleet operates for.

Vade cum honore, pugna contra superbiam.

Regards,
Colonel Maria Cortez, Task Force Pacientia, Maltese 72nd Fleet.
