Possible, but doubtful.

Partial downloads don't allow you to activate them in freelancer. However if someone got the bright idea to uncompress the file and copy files over, that's possible.

But highly doubtful.

I'm still convinced the problem is in the server by itself.

i've done the same fighting wolf did with the 50 mollys. There were 4 players in the system with me (1 with me in bedford space. i was in a rh bs. the rest were in the same system but not with us), and arround 12 players online.
There was no lag at all.

The las due to thruster might be caused by your video card. Or maybe you have a p2p client uploading stuff at max bandwidth? That will cause severe lag...
Also, engine and wing trails cause no lag at all as they are calculated client side..

I don't do any P2P client downloads. It is illegal and I do not support it. And my mention for the contrails on the end of the wings is that I just don't find them realistic.

I have a Geforce 6600 256MB DDR. Trust me the archaic particle effects that freelancer uses are not an issue :) Thank god! LOL

And for everyones information (I know everyone assumes, even I do) I do know the difference between Latency lag, and FPS lag, and latency wise lag on my end and the server.

Also the more this thread progresses it seems that the issue really is server side, most likely hardware related and the thruster issue I am seeing is a symptom of that.

The lag seems pretty random to me too and I think you might be right about the thrusters. My ping shouldn't read 67 if it is a red connection which tells me that something is probably bogging down the server. Maybe it's multiple people with multiple battleships that is causing it. It can't hurt to disable the NPC thrusters for a few days to see if it fixes the problem.

I have noticed though, that resetting the server usually gives a good 3-4 hours without any lag. Does multiple logging in and out bog down the server? I have noticed people logging in and out constantly to reset bribes at bases (I didn't know that that worked.) and then I get a red warning after a couple hours of playing with no server reset.

There is definitely something causing the lag problem because I find EVERYONE is lagging at the same time. The thrusters seem to be a good place to start.

Overall though the Discovery Mod is wonderful. The only "mod related" problems (besides lag) I have run into is Jump Holes and Bases not appearing on my Nav map but I can live with this.

Guys, i just realized.

The problem isn't anything in-game. It's something causing flserver.exe to eat the processor up completely, causing server-side latency.

I think I know what the problem is, but it'll take me about a couple of hours of troubleshooting (and finding new RAM) to figure this out for sure.

Never heard of that before.

Regarding lag - we'll do everything we can.

I think he might be on about the new bases not appearing on the nav map, even if you've mapped the systems they are in.

To reveal those bases, you first need to discover them. Just because you mapped the system before the base was established does not mean that the base will magically appear on your map. You need to visit the place again in order to get the base on the map.
