OK, over the past two days my PC is nearly locked in performance as soon as I turn on the internet. My first thought was "Oh crap, connection hack or virus", looking in Task Manager, System Idle Process was consuming all my CPU. Joy.
I rebooted my PC into safe mode and ran lots of scans, complete ones. Nothing came up with Avast!, Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware.
Then I got desperate, I managed to get my 2nd hard drive to work, and installed Windows XP Home. I'm using that now and just installed Avast. No problems so far, but I plan to install Linux through USB to finally end all of this crap.
Now, how will I be able to use Freelancer? Because I here the only way may be through the Windows Emulator. Will I be able to migrate the whole Freelancer file onto my second hard drive and keep playing? I really don't want to lose my characters... I think I best make a copy of my account through FLAM...
Also, will I need scanners on Linux? Or should I opt for Windows 7 instead?
Regarding Linux and Freelancer it is possible to run it through Wine, though highly tricky. The better option is Cedega, a commercial product so that means money.
Though it may simply make more sense to create a small XP partition dedication to gaming rather than investing the effort in setting up Linux.

Linux = Better security and performance I'm told, to me on my crap PC, that's great.
I have got two XP partitions now, updating the new one to new status, and copying files afterward or tomorrow, might get my friend to burn Linux for me, he uses it a lot. He has it on his USB in college, desperately trying to workaround the internet blocks
Tune Up Utilities? I'll take a look at it, but I think there is something malicious going on in my master drive that can't be detected, or its too late to be detected. I think someone has somehow tapped into my connection through the master drive, on this slave one the only issue I got it getting it up-to-date again.
I`m using XP only for gaming.
Freelancer runs under linux(FLMM aswell) using wine, but im having problems playn MP.
If u havent used Linux before,i suggest u start with Ubuntu Linux and then try some other distros.
In terms of security, there is no such thing as secure PC system.
The majority of Internet Users are using Windows, thatsway there are so many viruses etc...
Last thing i will recommend,do not use programs like memory optimizers, registry cleaners,etz..
If u are using a router.just install some free antivirus program,like antivir,avast,etc..
If u dont use a router, installing a firewall is recommended.
Whatever u do,u will have to reinstall the Windows OS atleast 1 time in 12 monts.(Dont know how it looks with Vista or W7)

About this. Idle process means that there is no load on your CPU. Idle process shows you how much free CPU capacity is left. So it's not the bad thing. It's exactly the opposite.

That's what I thought, I know what the process itself does, something with CPU cycles to stop malware stuff, it shouldn't be hurting performance.
But somehow it manages to take all my performance, it may or may not be it. But something has gone horribly wrong in my C: drive.

Are you smoking pot son?
I see you are confused.
System Idle Process does not take any performance. It's a NOP (No OPeration) loop inside a CPU. When CPU is doing absolutely nothing (not running for example Freelancer.exe process) the Task Manager shows System Idle Process 100%.
Below in the attachment you can see that Idle Process shows 58% of CPU load, the firefox 38% etc.
It means that the CPU at that moment when I took the snapshot has 58% FREE resources. That means that CPU is able to handle all programs without bogging down even for a second.
Anyway. Your problems have nothing to do with the System Idle Process or any other process that jams the system. No single program is jamming your system. So it can and most likely be a device driver fault.
Pop up the Device Manager (Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager) and see if you got any conflicts there by clicking open the hardware tree and checking the devices if they are working properly.
