You have enemies? Why, it is the story of every man who has done a great deed or created a new idea. It is the cloud which thunders around everything that shines. Fame must have enemies, as light must have gnats. Do not bother yourself about it; disdain. Keep your mind serene as you keep your life clear. - Victor Hugo

What is tolerance? It is the consequence of humanity. We are all formed of frailty and error; let us pardon reciprocally each other's folly — that is the first law of nature. - Voltaire

Did you want a revolution without revolution? - Robbespierre

MARGAUX DURANT was born into a wealthy but nonetheless common family on Planet Blois, where most of her family shipped out from when they ventured out into the system (or neighboring ones) to pick up excursionists, vacationers and backpackers from around Gallia who wished to visit one of Blois' many resorts in the polar regions. The Durant family, with use of a Lucullus-Class liner leased from a friendly liege from the Lyonnais system, ran a kind of shuttle service to and fro from Blois and several destinations. This allowed them to acquire wealth moreso than the usual common folk, and were thus able to send all 10 of the Durant children to more prestigious schools -acquiring a reputation not only for wealth and enterprise, but also sophistication and erudition. Margaux would eventually find work in the Gallic Metal Service, where she rose up the corporate ranks from her entry-level job as an executive assistant. It was also there where she'd meet her future husband, Jacques-Leon De La Bedoyere on a business excursion between the GMS and the IDF. They would fall in love and wed less than 4 years later. She would henceforth be known as Margaux de la Bedoyere, or more colloquially, Madame La Bedoyere.

It was not to last however, as just 3 months after the marriage kicked off, Jacques was accused of colluding with the Council (he was allegedly leaking the manifests of the IDF convoys to Leeds for the Counseillards). Exact details of the narrative are scarce as most of it has been wiped from the government's records, but soon after he was taken into custody, Madame La Bedoyere found herself pursued by agents of both the Gallic Royal Navy and the Gallic Royal Police. Her husband was taken into custody and never heard from again, and she had to go into hiding after just 2 months later, she also began appearing on the authorities' watchlist for Council collaborators. Desperate, she sought the help of a few friends from the Union Corse who'd owed her a few favors from her days with the Gallic Metal Service, who then arranged for her and her family to be shuttled off Blois immediately and into Champagne under the protection of the Council. The operation was for the most part successful - all of Margaux's relations made it to Champagne, but unfortunately she was captured by Navy agents, and taken to La Fere Prison Station in the Picardy system for interrogation.

3 arduous weeks of detainment would follow as the Royal Police attempted to get Margaux to confess to framed charges of treason, terrorism, organized crime and libel against the monarchy. Stolen dossiers from the GRP show she was subjected to a wide range of torture methods - primarily water torture, waterboarding, prolonged sleep deprivation, water and food deprivation, sensory deprivation, forced nudity under interrogation, Parilla, physical beatings and even sexual abuse. A daring rescue attempt was made by Maquis collaborating with her friends in the Union Corse, and after 25 days of captivity she was rescued from the prison station and taken deep into Champagne. Upon her arrival on Marne, she was reunited with her family, and the Council, the Corse, and the Maquis who had rescued her debriefed her on the events of the past 4 weeks.

Her husband did not survive interrogation on Chateau D'If Prison Station, and the Durant family's assets on Planet Blois had been repossessed by the government - their housing complex raided and the fate of family friends unknown. It turns out her husband was working with the Council however, and over the course of the next few months, for what little consolation it offered, she got to know the husband she never had the chance to love through learning about the efforts of Council sympathizers within the IDF, and even the GMS. She has since juggled attending to her family on Marne with working to help the Council from Champagne by tapping into her personal network of business contacts - mainly in the GMS, the IDF and the EFL.

Madame Le Bedoyere remains a loyal Combattant de la liberté in the Council's ranks, where her background of commandeering Gallic train transports has translated into command of the Council's larger vessels that require crew complements. She has close ties with the Union Corse, and maintains cordial relations with the Maquis and Gallic Brigands.

'A slave's life is all you understand, you know nothing of freedom. For if you did, you would have encouraged us to fight on, not only with our spear, but with everything we have.'
