Subject: Details of the project

Greetings, Rear Admiral!
So the other day we were talking about my project and you asked me to send some details about it. You will find the basic concept in the attachments.
I hope you will like it and maybe you can expand the concept with your ideas.

Project Hummingbird

The project's goal is to fill the gap between the Defiant-class and the Archer-class so we can have a more manoeuvrable ship that can hit somewhat hard on lighter capital ships. The first task is to choose a ship that can be easily accessed for us. I've chosen the CTE-12400 Condor-class civilian gunboat. I send every important data about the class.
[+]Condor-class
"Designed with a generous power supply and adequate armor, the CTE-12400 Condor is still a rare sight in Sirius. The ship is a new design adapted from an obsolete Zoner model. Built and maintained by various organisations unable to develop or acquire military ships, the Condor is typically used for heavy escort, or, in the hands of terrorists, to deal with a heavy escort." - Short description.

Technical information:

Guns/Turrets: 0 / 6

Other equipment:
1 Cruise Distruptor Slot
1 Countermeasure Slot

Hull strength: 125,000
Cargo space: 450 units
Nanobots/Batteries: 350/350
Max. impulse speed: 80 m/s
Max. thrust speed: 140 m/s
Max. cruise speed: 350 m/s
Power output: 500,000 u
Power recharge: 50,000 u/s
[+]Base concept
First Phase: Arsenal

First of all we do work from what we have so we will try to test existing weapon systems on the "Hummingbird" -this will be the name of the ship- If we found a fitting one we can continue with the Second Phase, but if not we have to look for foreign weapons or if nothing fits, create our own.

Second Phase: Powercore

If we mount hard-hitting weapons on this ship we will need a bigger amount of power, we have to mount a stronger generator if needed, we can give up some of the cargo space or some of the nanobot slots if needed. The power output of 600,000-650,000 u is what we are aiming currently. If we can manage to mount a more advanced powercore we can move to the Third Phase.

Third Phase: Charge boost

I was thinking about the Third Phase many times... To choose between stronger shield or quicker recharge. I think the recharge is more important because we can counter the loss of shield with the agility of the ship. So the recharge has to grow somewhat with the new generator. I think we can force out around 60,000 u/s from the new generator. But the experiments will show it anyways.
So this is the concept for now, I know it isn't that complete but since I have no access to these type of ships currently that's all I can do.
Thank you for your interest in this thing. I hope we can have the first heavy-gunboat (anti-capital) in Sirius.
I will send the whole concept to Captain Taylor too as soon as we can merge our ideas.

Regards, Dayton

Good morning Lieutenant,

I'm currently reviewing your project and i am intrigued by the concept. While i think the condor might not be the perfect chassis for such project, it's availability within Liberty make it somewhat a logical choice to begin with.

Looking at the specs you provided me, the limited amount of weapons mount would leave, unfortunatly, the ship vulnerable to light ships such as fighters and bombers. But i suppose you have already thought about this and don't concider using all the mount for heavy artillery.

Speaking of artillery, you wish to use which available weapons types on the H-bird?. Keep in mind that with the build, as you already say, will lose alot of cargo space while fitting a bigger core. This will leave the possibility of using ammo-based weapon really limited and the use of energy weaponry mean to get exposed at close range.

Also as yo said, you expect the ship to fill the gap between Defiant and Archer but on my standing point of view, it would be more logical to turn the ship into a heavy hitting, long-range torpedos or missiles plateform. I mean, with limited armor and weaponry, the ship need to deliver massive damage fast then leave as fast.

I would suggest that you develop a torpedo launcher that would be able to use standard nova torpedo ordinance or something like it. I would see a "mini" version of the desolator but again, would leave vulnerable to shortage. What are you intending to use as weaponry really matter for such project.

Also when its come to defensive capabilities, i am somewhat worried. From what i picture, it would be a ship that would need to work in duo with Defiant or Archer. It's limited armor and massive payload would make the ship a priority target. How you intend to fix that issue without altering the performance of the ship too bad?

But first thing first, you should first get your hands on a Condor and do the testing with the basic ship configuration and from there write a full report to your unit leading officer. I'm sure you understand that we can't simply give green light on this project without knowing the performances of the ship in real combat situation.

While i for the use of ressources to develop new technology that will give us the upper hand, you'll have to convince Taylor to request the funding for such endeavour. Personally i would agreed if there was no other project currently being tested. I love to see people trying to acheive their goal and bring new ideas on the table.

Keep me informed Dayton. You might have brought on the table, an idea that could work if it well designed. It could even lead into developping a heavier bomber or torpedo boat.

Alright, I think I have a better idea. I changed some stuff in the project, maybe it will be better in your opinion. I'm thinking about a torpedo boat if this is a good choice. Here is the modified project:

First of all we do work from what we have so we will try to test existing weapon systems on the "Hummingbird" -this will be the name of the ship- If we found a fitting one -we are aiming for a torpedo boat loadout so we can bomb enemy ships from distance- we can continue with the Second Phase.

Second Phase: Mounting

Our long-term plan is to mount 3 torpedoes on the Hummingbird, for this, we can give up some of the powercore and the energy recharge because it isn't really needed for launching torpedoes. This way we can have a smaller generator and more ammunition can be fitted.
For now 2 Nova Torpedo launcher and 1 Incapacitator Torpedo launcher would be enough for testing, but first we have to use the already accessable ones on the market.

Third Phase: Defense

In the near future we will need a stronger hull and/or shield, because we have to stand the hammering from the light capitals somehow. But this isn't the most important task for now.
Regards, Dayton
