I have reinstalled freelancer after some hardware failure on my laptop. I have a fresh copy of the freelancer installation, a fresh mod manager, a fresh copy of the discovery mod. I have entered in the direct link line into the freelancer shortcut -s82.113.48.5:2302. I have followed every step in Dboy's Vista guide.

Yet, when I get to the server list and click on the discovery server, it says:

I'm using AVG 8.0 Free if that helps.

Edit: Also it takes lots of attempts to even run freelancer. Most tries load the game, the screen goes back then the computer returns to desktop with freelancer in the task bar. Clicking on the task brings it to the game, then back to desktop.

Apparently AVG is Freelancer-friendly anymore. Don't know much past that.

Is this happening with all other servers running the Discovery mod? We are unable to ping your address, and the tracert results get to your local area, and no further.
The other issue with the game does sound like it is Vista, or possibly a corrupt disk. Hard to tell from here.

The "minimising-to-desktop" issue has been fixed thankfully. Video drivers were the issue there.

Here's a tracert from my address to 82.113.48.5 (apologies if it's hard to read, i couldn't adjust the window):

I added a few servers to my shortcut and now I get Discovery RP 24/7 and Discovery USA on the list. Both of them return the same error message.

Switched to Avira, and that seemed to have fixed the problem. Poor AVG - I liked its interface a lot. Oh well.
