I've been trying to figure out the best way to map out systems. Scanners don't seem to scan solar objects the same way they detect npcs (and maybe players?)

I did a bit of testing and objects seem to be inconsistent. Some stations will pop up at around 10-11k while jump gates and smaller objects may only appear after sub 9.8k

How close to a station do I actually need to fly to, to mark it on the map?

Do scanners affect how soon I see a player coming towards me?

Is the 250mil J scanner just for bragging rights?

The longer scanner range is better for getting stuff on scanner, which usually means visually you can see those objects further out, even if not on your map. The same goes for ships, longer scanner range, the better range that you can use your mouse to find ships you have on scanner visually and see them even if you can't target them yet (it will show their name and glow a bit as you hover the mouse over their ship, the bigger the ship the easier but you can often use that trick to track ships beyond 10k). But I'm pretty sure for any unmapped feature you'll have to get to 10k to map. You can tell because if you click on the object it shows as Unknown. Once you get close enough for it to display its actual name, it should also go on your map. Not sure but it might be a bit furthet out for planets depending on size? Otherwise it seems about the same.

POB's never show on the maps, but also once you get in the 10k it will stay in your solars memory so you can just go to the tab and select it ay any range.

Otherwise I'm not sure on if the Jint scanner gives any advantage on mapping, but that would be nice. Or in the future it would be cool to see an Explorer's scanner or Scout Scanner for ghat sort of thing.

Thanks that clears some stuff up. However the whole "10k" range thing is what confuses me. A lot of solar objects are not to keen on sticking to that rule. Like Jumpgates.

From what i have seen spending 250 mil on a fancy scanner for exploring seems useless, it only increases the range of player ships.
