i've noticed that certain capships like the Rheinland battleship & the new Gallic battleships can be seen visually way beyond scanner range.

i'm curious what factors cause this? is it the size of the ship, if so how big does the ship have to be before you can see it?

i thought it might be useful to know if your like Mon'Star and need to not be seen on occasion and think just being out of scanner range makes you that way when in reality you are sticking out like a sore thumb.

the LODRange on shiparch.ini causes it from what i can tell.
though at 15+k even a Liberty Carrier is hard to spot unless your actually looking for it.

You can see most ships from quite a distance away - I have my draw distance turned up and I can see fighter combats as little groups of pixels moving around with slightly bigger groups of pixels being the gunshots:P

You can in theory see even fighters that far away, if they'd be any more and a pixel or none in size.

Yes, when you enable the mod, there's an option of increasing the view distance, just set it to the max.

Yes, they will see the fearsome silhouette of the Necrosis. But that's when you can use asteroid fields and nebulas for cover, I guess.

Incrased visibility is cool overall. We even had jumpholes visible from 30K but turned it back down because some of the holes are in open space (which I criticised a bit, since there are net to no jump holes in open space in the original game) - but hey, we had to do all the ships, systems, weapons and balancing first.

The increased visibility of huge ships is an amount of relism that we can afford even in Freelancer. I do not need to be reminded that I'm playing a video game each time a liberty dreadnought spawns at 2K distance from me, out of nowhere. Hence - spawns.

Meh, I wish we could get rid of those target boxes that appear when a target is selected. For certain ships in certain conditions it would mean being really stealthy.

By any chance can a person increase the visible range of jumpholes back up to 30k by some file modification?

I remember taking my Mercenary through the great vasts of space known as the Omicron systems, through to the Nomad city etc, all by looking out for the small discolouration in the background that was a jumphole.
Now, that's impossible:(
