I've searched far and wide for a solid, detailed source of history and lore of the Discovery in-game universe, but all I found are some incomplete timelines, outdated wiki articles, scraps of intel, short news and such.

What I'm searching for is a comprehensive source of information that would encompass the entirety of the history, lore and politics of all the major (and minor) players across the board from the end of original game's single-player campaign to present day.

I think many other players would join me in this search, as such a source of information would allow one to find out what has transpired over all these years before one's arrival and introduction to Discovery.

It would also help all of the community to have a single reference point for all the storylines that are about to be introduced and interwoven into the plot of the game by the players themselves, all the new factions that are to be created and character backgrounds as well.

And so, we come to the question I asked in the title of this thread. Is there such a thing? If so, please, point me to it.

And if not, then I think the making of such a construct should be strongly considered. I'd gladly help myself in any way I can.

I would also love to see something like this. The wiki is the closest thing to it I think, but it's really out of date...

I would also really, really like a centralised database for lore, and I think the Wiki should be that database.

Suggestions:
  • Redesign / re-implement the DSCore concept, within the wiki, whereby game resources are translated into infocards, and infocards are translated into corresponding wiki pages.
  • System / solar object lore is reflected in system infocards which are generated into wiki pages.
  • A graphical timeline of significant cannon events is built and hosted on the wiki. Interactive modern HTML5 graphics would be great. Maybe there's a plugin. It'd be a great advertisement for the mod's lore, and a great way to catch up on where the universe of Discovery is up to.
  • Static resources that only require updating occasionally or only with numbers that could be pulled from mod files are hosted on the Wiki, specifically tutorials.
  • Community contributions to the wiki are either in auxiliary pages or are integrated into the central lore database by the dev team, then being rendered into infocards, wiki pages, tables and tools.
  • One unified database for infocards and lore.
  • One unified database for equipment stats.
  • One unified database for ship stats.
  • One unified database for rephacks.
  • Automation used to dynamically render everything we need from there, including in-game files, wiki pages, and tools / tables like a rephack table, techcompat, etc.

Huge upfront work, but if designed well and future-proofed according to what's hardcoded about FL, it would hugely reduce update overhead and importantly, centralise and make public all of this key information.

How about a One Note setup, a NwN World i am a designer for uses One Note for their whole database of information it's like a mini wiki thats specifically just for that one server!

Just an Idea i know a lot of people dislike One Note but in the other game i play it's a god send when it comes to needing information all in one place!

Heres a Link to it so you can see how they have it setup

Judging by your replies I take it that there is no such a thing at the moment, is there?

Well, while I knew the wiki is outdated, I hoped that the developers have an article or two that tell the story of those last 27 years that happened in-game. The absence of such material is baffling, to be honest.

So, all we have are those scraps we can search for and find by ourselves? Hhmmm...

I agree with Champ that wiki would be the best place for. Although what I meant by original post was more akin to a big wall of text that would encompass the story since after the single-player campaign until present day, rather than a multitude of wiki articles on lore. Although those would also be a very nice thing to have. Beaming up information from game infocards and such to wiki pages seems like something that requires electronical wizardry beyond my comprehension. I think I could, however, edit and update wiki pages, but I'd still need to get the information to do it from somewhere.

Ship and weapon stats are something easily accessible in FLStat, whereas lore and history are not. Thus my question still remains, where can I find information on lore and storylines that were developed during those years?

If I had this information, I could actually try to coin some wiki articles and try to update it. I haven't tried registering there yet, so I'm not sure it's possible to sign up and edit, but if it is then I'd gladly try.

Broadly speaking, the forums.

You can narrow that down to the roleplaying subforums. Official Sirius News stuff should tell you a bit about story changes and patches. Other storylines are going to be reflected in a few sparse diplomatic communiques and such, unofficial news broadcasts... but it's hard to nail down each of them.

If you want to write up / edit wiki pages based on the information you find, it'd be welcome. Include citations so we don't have to find them a second time if your work is re-adapted Tongue
