Harbourship New Dawn is the flagship of a decontamination program that takes place within the Omicron systems. Thanks to its biodomes it’s self-sufficient to the point where it can stay outside of civilized space almost indefinitely. It is well armed for a ship of its size and is equipped with cutting edge jumpdrive technology to be able to travel large distances within the blink of an eye.
Ship Statistics
-1700 units of cargo space additional to separate cargo holds in which decontaminated material is sealed.
-A power core capable of putting out 9,000,000 u to power both offensive and defensive systems.
Standard crew compartment
-Life support, containment chambers and other critical systems are powered by individual smaller power cores to ensure their function during combat.
-Heavy shielding and armored plating suited for the most hostile of environments.
-An artificial intelligence to supervise most of the ships systems.
-The crew consists of 70 scientists, 20 engineers, 30 general crewmembers in addition a number of all-purpose drones.
Offensive and Defensive capabilities
Even though the New Dawn is based on a Nephilim-class colony ship it has been majorly overhauled, trading in most of its original purpose for heavy energy and projectile based armaments as well as two main point defense systems. In case hostiles manage to break through the defense grid there are a wide range of utility systems. A hyperspace matrix allows the deployment of a distress beacon to call in nearby patrols for combat assistance. Although the ship is equipped with a cloaking device, long charge up times and the sheer size of the vessel make it more of a preventive than defensive system. Should the ship receive fatal damage the jump drive will drain energy from all available power cores to execute an emergency jump to random coordinates where a distress beacon is deployed to provide a chance for recovery.
Purpose
The main purpose of the New Dawn and the artificial intelligence that commands it is to stop the war between humans and Nomads, as well as preventing the mixing of human and nomadic DNA. Although both are ambitious goals both the AI and the crew are willing to continue this mission for as long as it needs to finish it. Should the crew die of age or other circumstances then Aurora, the mind behind the New Dawn, will engage a protocol to continue the mission on her own.
Decontamination process
Decontamination Chamber
The first part of the mission is decontamination. To achieve this the ship is equipped with several cremation-chamber-like systems that burn off all nomadic tissue by igniting a mixture of hydrogen and oxygen. Once infested material has been found, small remotely controlled snub crafts transport it to the main cargo bay where logistic drones take samples of Nomad tissue for research purposes and transport the rest to the decontamination chambers. Should debris pieces be too large for drones to handle them ,the New Dawn posesses a large armored airlock that can be opened to manouver the debris directly into one of the cremation-chambers. Once decontaminated the material will either be salvaged for repairs of the ship itself or stored in cargo bays for future use.
Research and examination
Sealed Sample Container
Once contaminated samples have been taken by automated drones, scientists in sealed biohazard suits will analize them. Radiation, several stimuli and even the effect of Azurite gas on the tissue is documented and protocolled. Every week Aurora will create a physical backup of herself in form of several data cores. These cores are then sealed, ready to be jettisoned in case of mission failure. Should this event happen the New Dawn will trigger a failsave, causing its reactor to overload and desintegrate anything within a 10 click radius around the ship, leaving only data cores behind to be picked up by future scientists that will hopefully find use in whatever research had been done up to this point.
Navigation
The New Dawn relies on strong long-range sensors to pick up both threats and debris fields to scavenge. These sensors sacrifice accuracy for range, allowing snub crafts or even smaller gunboats to often pass through the defense grid without notice. Aurora uses them to systematically search through various Omicron systems on a frequent basis, often returning to specific places once word of a battle has spread around the neural net.
Reputation
Since the Zoners own most of the edgeworld stations and hold a mostly neutral reputation with the present factions the ship flies under the mentioned IFF to avoid unnecessary conflict that might risk the mission. The New Dawn operates far from civilization seeing as though foreign capital ships are banned in core space. However, should it come across both humans and nomads it will act neutral and only engage combat in self-defense.
