We must understand that there are different people here, one love to PvP, there's a bunch of guys in Cortez that love shooting npc's, there's the trader that loves going through many systems to trade and relax, there's me shooting hundreds of npc's on missions and so on

Well, as you said, they are PVE zones and not PVP zones. All hail the repair ships!

Very well said. Everybody has their flavor. Smuggling is no longer profitable yet I still do it (allegedly) because it's fun. The problem is that there isn't enough people with enough sense or social intelligence to understand that this is a game meant to have fun and that compromises may be required for everybody to enjoy the game.

It ain't about what you are capable of, it's about what you're willing to do.

I won't rule out that maybe I'm just doing it wrong, I haven't played for a long time. I can see the appeal as a PVE co-op game, it's just so very different from what made this game special to players like me. It is so much more limited in scope now. I wanted to explain why there's little incentive to log a pirate ship, or even roleplay "the bad guy" outside of villain-flavoured text chat, from my personal perspective.

I suppose I should just take it for what it is and enjoy the PVE. Try to join a faction and do some group PVP and just have fun with that.

Yeah, do things you love to do, there are maybe more smugglers around, i do missions today, the next day some PvP if there are battles somewhere, the other day i go to battlefield zones to shoot some npc's. There are beautiful systems like Nu(hey that Midway planet is almost the size of my Legate dreadnought, Tau-44 (i love the music there) , Omicron Major over the plane (if you want to get lost and risk to be shooted by nomads caps npc's). Well sometimes it may get boring, but still its the lovely Freelancer (nod)

Reading the stuff from these posts makes it clear to me what is one of the issues with the game/server: people like to make everything a chore.
Its a chore to be a humble trader, its a chore to avoid interactions as a power trader, its a chore to be an interesting and successful pirate.

I feel the income over time incentive is slowly stopping to work for the average player, as most of the people really have too much cash and little reason to spend it, thus an overall lack of traders.

So what is left is trying to steer those who actually need cash into all the activities evenly, not just getting them to focus on the most profitable one - which i think is currently group PVE, or ores ?

Maybe the solution would be to mix it up a little, though I'm not sure how much work it would be.

Basically make it a rotation where on any given day it's more profitable to mine, trade or PVE. This could probably most easily be set up with events such as those described in A plan for longevity

Alternatively, a more intriguing solution could be to tie the PVE Controller rewards to a global "rewards pool" (or maybe make it per House to encourage more focused interactions?) that gets filled with a percentage (or a multiplier would make more sense?) of the trading volume being done on the server. Basically, as more and more people PVE and not trade the liquidity for NPC bounties would dry up, nudging people to pick up mining and trading again as the more profitable option until the bounties cash pool is restored again.
