I will say this: if you have any suggestions for what new use we could give survey modules that could potentially rub the "surveying" itch, please don't hesitate to let us know. It's not that we want to remove the feature, it's just that our new implementation of jumpdrives makes them obsolete. I think everyone would agree that the coordinate system is kind of inherently unintuitive and unwieldy, so it being replaced shouldn't be too surprising. But it leaves a bit of a gap that I would happily fill.

I wouldn't be entirely surprised if you ended up suggesting something we're already working on in a different way, too (Let's just say dynamic connections between some systems are on the menu, but surveying has nothing to do with it), but that's life.

Will try to think of new things to put in with this. Maybe bring in elements from what happens in the real world with "researchy" things and see if anything fits within the FL universe. Whatever the new system is for JDs, I hope the Corvos can still be used, otherwise I may be in need of a faction restructure. If not, then whatever new idea works with the survey modules I can do no problem. Lots of "ifs" and "buts" with this. This next patch will very much influence Starfliers a lot.

Might be completely impractical to implement, but what if survey modules assisted in sci data "mining"? Assuming that system remains as is. Maybe activating a survey module could prompt more numerous or valuable anomalies to spawn? Could potentially also be a mining booster for ores, cause it surveys the area for rich fragments or whatever other justification can be given, but I assume that would mess up economy calculations too much.

I also had this same idea, though I'd prefer a brand new system. New currency, commodity, resource, anything. But not have it tied to Scientific Data mining.
