Lisset "Vibora" Vazquez - Commander of the Black Sails
Beginnings of a Corsair
Born into the lower-middle class of Planet Crete, Lisset was one of 5 children of her parents, Eladio and Diana Vazquez. Lisset grew up fast. As the oldest child and first-born and both of her parents working, Lisset learned to fend for herself and her siblings quickly. Her parents managed to put food on the table for all of them, but they had little money for other necessities, and luxuries were out of the question during her childhood. Vazquez saw this and realized there had to be more to life than battling the poverty line every day. Lisset craved adventure. She was a bit of a troublemaker, oftentimes trespassing and getting into things she shouldn't. This natural sense of rebellion, combined with her parents' absence created a sense of independence from a young age. Although she was clever, Lisset was not academically inclined. She would see the ships of Crete's soldiers pass overhead and realized a life on the surface wasn't her destiny. Shortly after turning 18, Lisset began her training with the Cretan paramilitary forces, determined to experience a life of adventure outside of Crete's proverbial walls.
The military engine of the Corsairs provided a structure and purpose to her life that she so desperately seeked in her younger years, and Lisset excelled under the training. She found herself increasing comfortable in her "Centurion" class fighter, that was standard-issue and likely handed down from two or three generations of Corsairs before her. Soon enough, she was qualified to fly sorties of her own, and started flying in small groups of Corsair raiders, performing sorties and small raids against the Outcasts and Bounty Hunters that frequented her home system of Omicron Gamma.
In 829 A.S., Lisset formed up with the Apollo's Arrows as a fighter pilot and lieutenant of the small raiding force. Her commander, Luca Tiberius, saw potential in the upstart pilot and felt that with some more specialized training and defined command structure, that she would be propelled to newer heights. The Arrows operated throughout Sirius, but focused their efforts in the defense of Crete, and raids into the Omegas against both the Red Hessians and the Coalition, and even partaking in some deeper ambushes into the Dresden system, against the Rheinland Military and MND. By this point, Vazquez was a seasoned soldier, and was commanding a wing of her own. It was with the Arrows that she received her nickname, "Vibora".
Disaster in Theta
A few years into her raiding with the Arrows, Tiberius' small force was called back to the Omicrons to assist with the defense of Freeport 9 in Omicron Theta. The Outcasts and the Core launched a massive offensive, and the Corsair force was caught unprepared for the ferocity of the assaulting forces. Both Luca Tiberius, and his daughter, Io, who were in command of the group, were presumably killed in the battles over the station. The Arrows took severe losses in the fighting, and with both of their commanders assumed dead, the group split apart. Vazquez joined up with some of the more prominent groups of the Corsairs during the counter-offensives into the Omicrons and raids into the Omegas, but she never felt the same sense of pride and camaraderie she felt when she was flying with Tiberius and their groups. She was at a crossroads, unable to decide if a life of raiding was enough for her anymore.
Vazquez launched some solo missions of her own deeper into Bretonia and Rheinland, but they weren't very fruitful, and a couple of close scrapes with lawful patrols made her wary of doing such acts again. What she didn't realize, however, was that other Corsairs had eyes on her talents and knack for survival. An up and coming Corsair raider, Arthur Ortega, took interest in Lisset's skillset and made it known of a Corsair group that was returning to prominence, and a name that many Corsairs only spoke of in legends, the Black Sails. Sensing a kindred spirit, Ortega invited Vazquez into the band of raiders, stationed in Omega-5 at the time. Their group established operations with the Battlecruiser Santander in Dublin, and Lisset felt that same sense of purpose again.
A Future Sail
Ortega is a charismatic leader, and typically leads his own troops into battle. The idea of sitting back and commanding his troops is anathema to him, and Lisset found herself drawn to the courage and ferocity of the other Sails in battle, something she was missing for a long time. Ortega, in turn, recognized Lisset's vast amount of combat experience, even when odds were bad, and realized that Lisset had potential as a commander rather than your typical front-line soldier. Lisset rose quickly through the ranks of the Black Sails, and often assists Ortega and his commanding staff with diplomatic negotiations with the other Corsair bands. The Black Sails have now more-or-less assumed total control of the Corsairs' southern offensive into Bretonia and the deeper Omegas. With other Corsair groups suffering immense losses to the amalgamation of enemies, such as the Mollys, IMG, and Bretonians, the Sails have decided to take matters into their own hands. Their band continues to grow with disillusioned Corsair pilots looking for a band of pilots to fly with.
Lisset has no desires to have children of her own, and has devoted her life to raiding and pillaging with the Corsairs. With the return of the Black Sails, Vazquez managed to fill the deep void missing in her life after her original band of troops split apart. Vazquez is often seen flying her signature Centurion in the Dublin system, raiding Molly Gold convoys, and skirmishing with the blockading Bretonians and the few brave Bounty Hunters that venture into the system in search of a paycheck. Her ruthless and cunning nature make her a vital asset to Ortega and his band, and her years of front-line experience have proved invaluable in training their newer pilots. Lisset and the rest of the Sails have made a vow to subdue Dublin, and Bretonia as a whole, to the will of the Corsair Empire, regardless if the Elders see differently.
