Some where on New London

As always he woke sweat trickling down his back, he never could hold on to that dream. Not that it mattered much if it was enough to wake him he didnt want to, he reach over and took a cigarette form his jacket, set up and look hazily for a lighter...

"Hmm, where did...." He froze.

"Frak!"

"Good evening Seh'ect, really such profanity is not necessity.

The ogre of a man towered of the end of the bed, grinning like he wasnt all there.
Sehect scrambled for his pistol, *Crack*, the pain was immense, the man now stood by the side of the bed fixing the creases in his suit, Sehect lay sprawled on the other side of the bed, less a couple of teeth.

Please, it would be best if you didnt try that again, my employer values your safety

Who the Frak are you?

Sehect tried to stand but slumped back to the floor

I am Mr. Gilmore

He strode round the bed and extended his hand to help Sehect up. Lifting him of the floor like a child and placing him on the end of the bed.

You shouldnt be so brash boy, it will get you into trouble, now it is best if I speak and you listen, understand?

Sehect could do nothing but nod in agreement, his jaws just wouldnt open.

"Good, as I said before I am Mr. Gilmore, and believe me I know who you are; my employers would like to offer you a job.

Your employer, who do you work for? What make you think I want a job?

What about me gives you the impression you are being given a choice? As for my employer, He wishes to remain in the shadows for now, but you may think of him as a guardian angel so to speak.

There it was again that grin. Sehect didnt like this but he was curious.

So, what would this job be then Mr. Gilmore?

That is yet to be decided, when my employer wants you, I will come, in the mean time we will fund your new position in Sirius as a trader, you will be given a ship, the appropriate papers and funds to pick up you first lot of cargo.

Wait, you are going to what? I dont get it, you are going to just hand me a ship and creds?

No, you misunderstand we are not just going to hand you anything, the ship will belong to my employer, just as you do.

Wait one Fraking minute! I dont belong to anyone!

*Crack* There it was again, Sehect should of seen it coming, more teeth fell from his mouth, Mr. Gilmore straightened the cuffs of his suit.

In return for you service, a well as the ship and creds, we will wipe your record, and make the bounty on your head disappear, you will no longer have to hide in accommodation like this, of course Liberty space will still be of limits for the time being, cant risk someone recognizing my employers newest asset.

Mr. Gilmore briskly turned and picked up a briefcase that had been sitting beside the door, opening it he retrieved a folder, and flung it onto the bed beside Sehect who was still dazed by the head sized fist that had broken his nose.

One more thing Sehect, I must insist you see this man as soon as possible, I look forward to work with you in the future, Goodnight.

Mr. Gilmore left a business card on the bedside table before exiting the room as quietly as he entered. Sehect was still stunned, who was this guy? What did he want with him? Who the hell was his employer? His eye caught the folder on the bed next to him, he opened it, and couldnt believe his eyes, it was the paper copy of his flight license it also contained direction to a hanger at the starport where his new ship waited for him, and account details to a New London bank account that held ten million creds.

What the Frak? I need a cigarette.

Sehect stood and slowly wobbled his way to the bedside table, as he reached for his lighter he noticed the card Mr. Gilmore had left him, picking it up and staring at it, he couldnt help but smile(all be it rather painfully).

The nurse fresh faced and only recently qualified smiled at the various patients and medical staff as she made her way to room 313 to check her first patient. Reaching the room her smile faded quickly, through the window her patient lay still on his bed, hooked up to so many machines it was hard to make out the features of his face. She hadnt expected this, a mix of fear and sorrow filled the young nurses heart.

Hes been like that for nearly a year

Startled the nurse spun quickly to face the man.

Oh, sorry. James North, Bretonia Police Authority.

The nurse swallowed hard and began to regain her nerve.

Wh...Who is he, what happened to him?

Well good question, we have checked the records but go no results, apparently he doesnt exist. You remember the murder at the Davis estate six months ago?

Yea. But I thought their where no survivors?

James answered while scratching his head

That is correct there were none on the estate itself, he was found less than a mile away in the woods, he was in a bad way but then a bullet in the head will do that.

Wow, thought the nurse wait till Mum hears this.

He was shot?

Several times, but it was the one in the head that put him in the coma, anyway hadnt you better go check on him make sure he doesnt wake up and do one before I get to question him?

Frak her rounds!

YeaHang on, heHe moved. Quick get a doctor.

The nurse moved through the door to the side of the bed, machines beeping franticly as she scanned the monitors.

Hes awake, bloody hell fire.

James ran off towards the nearest doctor, excitement and irritation overcoming him.

Six bloody months in this damn hospital and he decides to wake three days before I go on leave!

Planet Leeds
Refugee Camp LD.7889.Gamma

Dre Farren stood on the loading ramp of the ship, watching the explosions in the distance. The camp itself was a mess fifty thousand people starving, deceased, frightened and all hopping for a way off world. The soldiers on the ground, not ten foot away from him struggling with the sheer mass of people trying to push there way through begging with him and them to be let and onboard. Why the hell did the Captain sign up for this. He did hear the footsteps coming down the ramp.

They are getting closer, Web better hurry up with that last batch. Last thing we need is to be taking off with those things falling on our heads

Sehect stood gazing at the horizon, his eyes glazed as they always were these days.

The armed forces have grounded all outgoing flight until they repel the Kusari bombers. So it wont really matter if he takes his time

The smirk on Sehects face told Dre otherwise. He had to ask, almost at once wishing he hadnt.

Gilmore? Oh forget I asked, should off known it was him when you mentioned the relief effort, got to help he poor civilians, dont worry lads well make a tidy profit too

The sarcasm in his voice didnt even make Sehect flinch. He just stood there grinning.

Well you know as much about the man as I do, as in, he says we do.

Dres memory got the better of him, he remembered the first time he met Gilmore and it made him shudder. His knee never did quite work the way it was meant to since.

Never thought he was the caring type, what the hell is his interest in the people of Leeds, huh? What he getting from this?

I dont think he is the caring type. Hes only interested in one man, one Dr Miller; he should be with the last lot, if Web would hurry up. Go up to the cockpit and make sure Dex has this flying scrap heap ready; I want to leave as soon as he gets back.

Dex know hes going to be dodging incoming?

He knows; just make sure he doesnt chicken out better to be a moving target than a sitting duck

Dre shuffled of in to the cargo bay limping slightly more than he was ten minutes ago. Frak he thought the ships gonna be blown to bits and I am gonna be sucked into the fraking void!

James North stood outside room 313, staring though the window, he was angry. He had been on the Davis case form the beginning, his star witness had woken up from his coma two days ago. It was what he had been waiting for, this man had been the only lead he had, this guy could give him information that could crack the case, if he could talk! The guy hadnt even blinked. He couldnt the doctors were saying, sure he was awake, his body was in good condition for some one who had spent the last six months in a coma and his brain was active. Everything checked out. So why could the guy not even move?

So you got anything yet Doc?

The doctor who had just come out from the room, his attention on the data pad in his hand, didnt even look up at James.

It has me completely baffled, for all intents and purpose he is alive, but

I got all that doc, I want to know if you can fix him

The doctor sighed and tuned to face James.

That my point hes awake, there is no damage to his neural path ways, all his tests were clean. There is no reason why heThe man is fine. We did find one thing that may help, he has an ID chip. I dont understand why we didnt why it wasnt fou

The chip doc, the chip. What sort of chip is it?

Oh yes, its prison issue, Liberty design I think.

Can you extract it?

Well yes but we dont know enough about his condition. It may have a diverse affect on his condition.

Doc the guys a zombie, he's useless to me, but the chip could solve seven murders. Cut the gorram thing out.

The horrified look on the doctors face was apparent

Zombie?

Its a creature from those old Listen doc just forget the zombies and cut the chip out.

It isnt that easy. I con not endanger my patient and I wont just"

James face contorted with rage, as he grabbed the doctor by the scruff of his jacket, picking him up of the ground and slamming him against the wall.

Listen to me you sniveling, weedy, upstart of a man. Your patient is the only surviving witness to the murders of a high profile Bretonian citizen, his mother, his house staff and his six dogs. You will cut out the chip and you will have it in my hands by the end of the day or I will have you up on charges of obstruction, aiding and abetting and anything else I can come up with. Now I am going to contact my superiors and inform them of you help in finding this lead. I will come back this evening to pick up the ID chip. Get it done.

Dropping the doctor to the floor James turned away and made his way towards the nurses station to use the phone. This was the break he was looking for, the LPI should be able to identify his witness. He just needed to make sure they didnt swoop in and take the zombie back to Liberty.

James North sat in his office, sullen and drinking rather heavily. The damn LPI, it was his case. Pouring himself another drink he began to read over the file on his witness…..

LPI Prison Physiological Report

Subject: Seh’ect Jarreck
Completed by: Dr Armstrong

Background:
The subject was imprisoned for numerous offences. The subject was raised as property of the state after his mother and father were shot down in a shootout with LPI twenty-one years ago (refer to LPI report
LP-45G-78). From there of course a life of crime was to be expected. It’s his willingness to commit these crimes that has him referred to myself. In the short time since his imprisonment he has committed another eight offences concluding with his latest in which he murdered two prison officers, a fellow inmate and inflicting serious injury too anther two prison guards before he was subdued.

Session recording 01

Dr Armstrong: Commencement of study on subject 576….

Seh’ect: Subject? What the Frak do you think this is doc?

Dr Armstrong: Excuse me? We will begin in just a second. Now allow me to finish this ….

Seh’ect: Really you think I am going to sit here and listen to how hard my life is and how it has affected my decisions. Yea right doc. You ever think I do what I do because I want to?

Dr Armstrong: Really you must understand that my objective is to explain why behave the way you do. If you have something to add to the matter, Please do.

Seh’ect: Yea I got something to add…

Dr Armstrong: Wait no! Guards….*gurgle*

*Sounds of a struggle can be heard*

Seh’ect: You like that? Does that answer your Fraking questions?

*Spluttering and bone cracking sounds*

Dr Armstrong: *whimper*

Seh’ect: Not so smart now.

*Door crashes open*

Guard one: Back! Back!

*Sounds of struggle cease*

Guard two: Frak, get a medic!

Guard one: Drop it now! Put it down and move away!

Seh’ect: Alright, alright. I was only playing.

*Sound of something hitting the ground*

Guard two: On the floor, face down…..

*Recording cuts out*

James lent back in his chair. He heard it enough times already. Doctor should of had him restrained. Guys a nut job thought James still doesn’t give them the right to come in and take his only witness. He had to stall, had to misplace some paperwork or have him transferred to Newgate. That’s it! It would add at least another week in administration paperwork and at least another before he was ready. Switch on hi vid-phone James dialed up a connection to the Newgate barely able to control the smug look on his face.

Queen Carrina Hospital

James North walked along the corridor, followed by six heavily armed prison guards from Newgate. Creating panic and chaos as patients, nurses and doctors scrambled out of their way. And malicious smile crossed his face watch as a patient was slightly to slow and was thrown through a set of swing doors by the nearest prison guard. They rounded the corner and came to a stop outside the witness’s room. All but one of the prison guards fanning out and covering the corridor with there stub nose shotguns.

“This him?”

“It is, we need to get him secured and on the transport within an hour. Can I trust your men to get it done?”

The prison sergeant controlled the urge to smash the idiots face.

“The man’s is a vegetable and my team is the best, just like you asked for. We can handle this, when will we get the orders through?”

James swallowed hard, and then lied.

“The orders are being written up as we speak, once the chief signs it you will have it in writing. How long to the evac chopper gets here?”

“Eighteen minutes. Best get the prisoner up to top now”

James was cut off of mid sentence….

“You, you there what is the meaning of this?”

Great thought James, as the doctor red faced approached him. Only to be tackled by the prison sergeant. Still gripping the Doctor the sergeant turned to speak to James.

“You deal with this fool; we will move the prisoner to the roof.”

With that he dropped the doctor on his arse and nodded to the nearest prison guard. As the guard moved in to the room and began switching of monitors and disconnecting from the prisoner. The doctor look up at James dumbfounded.

“Prisoner? This man is a patient of this hospital and under my direct supervision, what is the meaning of this?

As the doctor stood up and dusted himself of he shot glance at the prison sergeant.

“Explain this now!”

“Listen doc, we got orders. This man is now a suspect in a murder investigation; you should have received my orders prior to us coming. I am sorry if you didn’t we a have problems at head office with our comms system.”

James lied again…He was beginning to find it easier. The doctor eyed him with suspicion.

“That may be so but I can not allow you to take him now he is due a protein shot to stop the risk of Kwashiorkor. If you are taking him you need to let me give him his meds. I will also have his note collected”

The doctor turned towards the prison sergeant the contempt written across his face.

“You will need a doctor to travel with him, I will have my appointments cancelled, you Chief medic is still Dr Sing? Let him know Dr Miller will expect him at the airlock with a full medical team when I arrive.”

“Yes doctor, if your coming be quick we need to move”

“Ready Sarg. Peterson and Harrison have cleared the route to the service elevator. It will take us to the roof. Evac is five minutes out”

The guard voice was muffled under the face mask but James was sure he heard a bit of stress in those words, he waited to Dr Miller was of round the corner before speaking.

“We really need him with us?”

“Yes Mr North you may think me stupid but you and I know this isn’t exactly a legit transfer. And that man could land both of us in lot of trouble if he contacts either one of are bosses.”

James wanted to bolt, but managed to control his legs. He hadn’t heard anyone else say it, but this was illegal. His entire career and life was on the line. It all rested on a zombie, if he didn’t…..

“Bit late for second thoughts Mr North, beside we are moving now”

The sergeant began barking orders and his team moved efficiently to the service elevator. The point man sweeping doorways and adjoining corridors. It only took minutes to reach the elevator. The tension among the guards rose as the elevator moved upwards passing floor after floor.

“Fraking Music, Why do they have to play such crap? Me I prefer the classics you know”

The sergeant with a confident look on his face glanced at the guard.

“Focus Rafferty”

The guard shrugged as the elevator pinged and the doors opened, raising his weapon he stepped out towards the left hand side of the roof, mirrored on the right by another, followed by two more.

“Clear”

The sergeant was next, follow by the last two guards pushing the prisoner’s hospital bed. James exited last. The Evac shuttle waited for them, so did doctor Miller and an orderly.

“Rafferty, Peterson, watch the roofs.”

The sergeant strode toward the chopper the guard pushing the bed directly behind him. He was less the twenty-five yards away when all hell broke lose. Rafferty’s head exploded in a mist of pink and white, quickly followed by one of the guards pushing the bed.

“Sniper!”

The sergeant hadn’t even finished saying it before he hit the ground, followed quickly by the other guards, Peterson rammed into James knocking him to the floor.

“Keep you head down sir, things just got interesting”

Peterson crawled toward the lip of the roof hugging the wall.

“Sarge you get a gander of the spot?”

“Not a cl……”

The sergeant was cut off and a shot rang out.

“Sarge? Sarge? Crap!”

“Get your **** together, he only clipped me, hes on the building to your eleven o’clock.”

“Stubs aren’t going reach that far”

“Tell me something useful, Sound off boys. Davis?"

One of the guards who were pushing the prisoner peered over the corpse of his team mate.

“All good boss, sniper got me in his sights but I am good.”

James stared and the scene in front of him. Two guards dead, one he couldn’t see. The rest unable to move like him, for fear of losing their heads. He couldn’t see the doctor but the orderly was on the ground, the pool of blood he was lying in kind of give it away he was dead. What the hell was going on?

Berrrrrrrt. The roar of the shuttles cannon as it tore into the building with the sniper brought everyones attention to the shuttle. The co-pilot was crouched beside it taking aim with a grenade launcher. The gunner was gritting his teeth and straining against the recoil of the cannon as it spat its rounds into the building. Suddenly the sergeant stood up a limped a fast as he could toward the prisoner and began pushing the bed toward the chopper, the other guard followed suit. Peterson stood and began fire uselessly at the building. James scrambled to his feet and rushed towards the chopper. The explosion let everyone know the co-pilot had fired. Less than five yards from the shuttle the sergeant fell almost as though he had stumbled on his injured leg, when the other guard fell clutching his stomach, James froze. There was no way the sniper was still alive. He shot a quick look at the building. It was awash with flames and the shuttles cannon were still tearing chunks out of it. James caught the look on Petersons face, he had lowered his weapon and tears had began to roll don his cheeks. James turned to toward the direction he was looking…..

“****”

Everything slowed down, James even noticed Dr Miller pushing the prisoner away from the chopper with his body carrying one of the guards stub nose shotguns. Behind the shuttle, the horizon was blotted out. An armed forces gunship rose over the building and swung round to aim its weapons towards the roof. The flash of its weapons was the only warning the shuttle pilot had before he was torn to pieces along with theshuttle as the gunship rounds struck it a close range. James was hurled into the air in the resulting explosion.

As he lay amongst the rubble swimming in and out of conciseness, shell shocked, his vision swam with white fleck, and his hearing dulled, James struggled to move. Pinned beneath debris his vision returned slowly as he lay there. He glanced up at the sky……

Present Day
Texas System
LPI Huntsville

He woke sweat trickling down his back, that dream it... He hurt, he tried to sit up but his body refused.

"Gary? Gary? Its alright your on Huntsville, in the Med unit, don't try to move I'll get the medic... Doc, get in here he's awake."

His vision was blurred he couldn't see the owner of the voice, he was beginning to wish he hadn't opened his eyes as his head begin to spin.

"Gary, it's Dr Hallen I am just going to check you out can you tell me do you know where you are?"

Huntsville the first voice had mentioned it. But where was huntsville?

"Huntsville...Th..The med unit."

"What section Gary?" Do you know why your here?"

"No... What's wrong with me? What the frak...Why am I here? What happened?"

His vision began to focus, and he saw the Doctor for the first time. A slight older looking man in a lab coat, the man behind him wear a uniform he didn't recognize,

"Can you tell me your full name? How about where you were born?"

Gary.. It was Gary, wasn't it? He hadn't even thought about it, they called him Gary. He...didnt know.. Why couldn't he remember?

"I.. I don't know, please tell me what's going on! Why can't I remember!"

As he tried to sit up again he realized it wasn't just the pain that was causing his immobility, he was strapped down. He stared at the doctor and noticed he was reaching
for something in his pocket.

"Wait..Plaese wait, what are you doing?!?"

"Relax Gary, your going to be all right, we here to help, Captain restrain his head please."

"Doc?"

"His head Captain now."

The man in the uniform stepped towards him and grasped his head with both hand covering his mouth in the process, as he struggled uselessly, unable to catch his breath, he was aware of a sharp pain in the side of his neck mere seconds before his vision began to swim and then went black as the sedative took affect.....

Outside the room the two men spoke to one another in a hushed tone. As other medical staff passed by completed their duties only acknowledging the security post outside the room.

"Doc was that really necessary? He's just woke up after who knows what, I mean look at him he's not excalty a security risk"

"I can't risk him causing himself more harm, if he really can't remember then the stress could do more harm, your going to have to wait too debrief before you ask"

"Command isn't going to want to hear that"

"Well he's your asset, you going to have to convince them he's not ready."

"You will have to sign off on that one doc, if you think he's for real."

"For real? You were in that room when he woke up, did that terrified man even come close to the person we know?"

"Alright doc but I am still going to need you to counter sign my report. I'll head over there now, let me know when he's awake."

"I will keep you and command appraised, now if you'll excuse me I am needed else where."

As the doctor turned and walked down the corridor, the Captain sighed to himself and softly cursed to himself.

"Well this is a complete frak-up"

Captain Richard Harris walked towards to the elevator at a moderate pace not even sure if his report was going to convince the Chairman, that this was a dead end. The assets brain was fried, what ever happened on New London had put the asset in a coma for over a year and wiped his memory clean. Doc Peters wasn't even sure if the asset would ever be able to go back into cover nevermind involved with the operation. Entering the elevator he hesitated just a fraction of a second before entering his clearance code to access Division's floor. Three years, millions of credits and the destruction of the top floor and roof of a hospital on New London, all he had to show for it was a brain scan and a doctors report. No this wasn't going to go well at all.

"Morning Captain, the Chairman is waiting in briefing room two, if you would just submit you key card and blood sample. I'll let him know your here."

He remembered why he hated her, the Chairman's PA, Donna Noble. She was always so chirpy. Young and bright eyed, barely out of training and she lands the job of a life time. She held out the machine and fluttered her eyelids at him, yes she wasn't to fond of him either.

"Captain?"

Again he hesitated, The guards flanking her gripped their rifle just a little tighter. He took the machine from her with a nod.

"Of course Donna, has he been apraised of the situation on New London?"

He smiled at her before swiping his ID and placing his palm on the reader, the sting of the needle as it drew his blood made him wince, Donna smiled. Handing the machine back to her, he began to unholster his sidearm and pass it to one off the guards. Donna waited for the machine to register his sample and confirm his identity before answering.

"He has, you will follow me"

It was an order, the little upstart. He let it pass a followed her to the briefing room, the guards fell in behind him a little more relaxed than before. As they entered the room, the chairman had his back to the door and was the sole occupant, the analysts and other staff missing from their usual seats.

"Mr. Chairman, the Captain is here."

Without turning to face either of them he put down the data pad, he had been reading.

"Thank you Donna, give us the room"

Donna left without further conversation and the guards took up position outside the door before sealing the door.

"Please Richard take a seat"

Sitting down at the table began to take out his briefing papers, as the Chairman sat at the head of the table.

"Please, I have already read your report. I am not here to listen to excuses and maybe."

Taken aback by the complete breach of protocol, the Captain was speechless, as his mind began to race, how can he of read my report?. Where are the rest of his staff?

"Mr. Chairman I...."

"I just got through talking to my counterpart from Bretonia, they want answer's, your man was meant to retrieve the asset through normal channel's. Not launch and covet op, that resulted in the death of BPA prison officers. The lead BPA officer is still in a critical condition. Explain to me how you let this happen?"

Well this situation just got a little more sticky he thought.

"Mr. Chairman, sir. The BPA officer proceeded to move the asset without authorization for his commanding officer's, he was moving the asset to New Gate, it would of taken weeks to get the the right paper work sent through, my man on the ground thought at the time there was a risk of the the asset being compromised, he made a decision to ensure the security of the operation."

"Captain you man could of started a war, if the Bretonian army wasn't tied up in the Tau's, this would be playing out in a different way, what was the asset doing in Bretonia anyway. Do we know anything Captain? The asset was being investigated due to his involvement with the death of a the head of a company called AIL, How does this tie in with the operation?"

The captain used the controls on the table to bring up the data they had on the AIL.

"All reports lead us to believe the asset was employed as a transport Captain for the company, but as yet we don't know why, we can't connect the the company to the operation."

"What about this man Davies? The BPA seem to think it was a professional hit, could the asset of done it?"

"We can't be sure, but he was found less than a mile from the scene and it look's as if he had been involved in a firefight. But I just don't see it, Mr. Chairman. There's no end game here, the asset wouldn't of risked everything on this unless there was."

"Well the BPA seem to think he had some involvement, the weapon he was found with was used to kill this man. Explain that?"

"It crossed my mind but it was not used on any of the security personal in fact none of the victim's security was shot, they appear to of been killed with a blade. Why would the asset of used a knife, then switched to a pistol, it just dost fit, beside as I said the asset worked for AIL he had plenty other chances to kill the man."

"So we have nothing?"

"I assume you have read the medical report? The asset dosnt remember anything, not even his on name."

He switched the screen this time bringing up personal data. The Chairman stood up moving towards the main screen.

"But we believe the dead man's brother, Colton, may have information, we have tactical team's searching for him now"

"You said searching Captain?"

"Yes Mr. Chairman, he hasn't be seen in public since his brother's death. It's as if he just disappeared. Are latest Intel leads us to believe he was on Cambridge not long after his brother's death, its our best chance at making sense of all this. But inlight of recent events, I believe it would be best if we worked with our counterpart's in Bretonia on this."

"Yes Captain, it would be best as I have already made assurances to them we would. I'll arrange the details myself. We can use you man on the ground, his team has a proven track record even if I don't agree with their methods."

"Mr. Chairman this is a breach of protocol, my man will reports to me"

"No Captain, he's works for me, you will contact him and make him aware, understood?"

"Yes sir, what would you have me do while you take control over my ground assets?"

The malice in the question was not lost on the chairman but he ignored it. The captain however was taken aback by his outburst however justified.

"Mr. Chairman, sir I meant to..."

"I understand what you meant Captain, I am sending you back to Huntsville with Simon's, as soon as the asset is awake I want him debriefed. Find out what he knows, Simon's can help him remember. This briefing is over, send Donna in on you way out."

The Captain felt like an animal caught in a ground vehicle's headlamps. But was able to stay composed enough to leave the room without further fuss. After a quick and polite conversation with Donna, he collect his sidearm and was in the elevator before the situation had time to sink in.
