My charater Greymalkin Gillion is unable to dock with certain gates. From Provence, the gate to Ile-de-France won't let me dock. Luckily, there is a jump hole to Ile-de-France that does work. In Provence, the gates to Languedoc and Ile-de-France both won't let me dock. Sometimes it does work, sometimes it doesn't.
Not sure if it is a bug or I'm doing something wrong. Sometimes a gate won't let me dock when I don't have a route that uses the gate, sometimes it won't let me dock when I do have a route that takes me through the gate.
I think I've had a similar issue with another character last week, which I solved by closing the client and logging back in again.
So I think it may be a bug, because it seems a little random, but it looks like it is getting worse. Or it is an issue at my end, in which case I would love to know what I am doing wrong.

Are there any NPCs nearby seemingly on a patrol? They can block docking queue and force you to wait. Shooting them enough to aggro should be enough to let you dock
No NPC's nearby (rarely see them in Gallia by the way). Also not a docking queue. I am all alone at the gate.
My (Freelancer) ID is active and no cargo or cargo in my hold also doesn't seem to be a factor.
I'm running the same trade run over and over again to save cash for a new ship. Now, the Provence -> Ile-de-France gate will let me jump. I have the same ship, configuration and cargo as the previous run (where I had to use the jump hole because the gate wouldn't let me dock) and now I am able to dock with the gate.

Gallic gates sometimes make the ship stand still in place if you hit the dock button around the max range that the game considers eligible for starting the docking animation (the docking animation starts when your docking lights turn on and the gate wings start opening). I suggest coming closer to the "mouth" of the gate and pressing dock. Hopefully that's your issue, and not something more serious.
I was right on top (in front of) the damn thing (within 1k) and it wouldn't open. I will keep your comments in mind when it happens again, because if it is a bug instead of a layer-8 issue, the devs need all the info they can get to chase down the bug and squash it.
