Company Founding

Founded in early 807 AS, The Bamburgh Company, known simply as Bamburgh, is a relatively new independent venture catering to travellers from the majority of Sirius. Based on Planet New London, they take advantage of the ever-growing need for transport but with a distinctive style. Drawing inspiration from the golden age of tourism, their vessels use older hulls repurposed and refitted to cater for the modern traveller’s every need. Each voyage promises a return to the elegance of the grand tour, where the hum of engines and the view of distant stars replace the bustle of the modern age.

The Bamburgh fleet, while small, is ever expanding with repurposed vessels drawn from every corner of Sirius. Whether they’re civilian or even ex-armed forces, every vessel undergoes an extensive refitting process at stations across Bretonia. Outdated systems, propulsion, navigation and safety equipment are replaced with the very best modern equivalents. While the process preserves aspects from the vessel’s original external designs, it ultimately costs less and saves classic ships from eventual scrapping. Bamburgh prides itself on passing the savings down to the customer, meaning cheaper prices for the luxury you deserve.

Since its founding, Bamburgh has positioned itself as a symbol of Bretonian ingenuity and craftsmanship. Its independent nature within a wider Bretonia allows its staff to think outside the box, not limited by the bureaucracy other establishments face. The company’s decision to have its base of operations on New London and refit its vessels in Bretonian shipyards has garnered support from local workers’ guilds and cultural preservation societies alike. Providing stable, well paying jobs for people across Bretonia in this time of instability and unrest. Bamburgh has cultivated an image not just as a cruise line, but as a patron of the people. Choosing heritage and tradition over the monotony of modern living.

The Three Sisters - Bretonian Palace-Class Royal Liners

Lady Agnes - The first of the sisters requisitioned for the Bamburgh Company. Formerly the pleasure craft of some notable Bretonian nobility, she was a common sight in and around New London. After her purchase by Bamburgh, she was taken to Southampton and refitted under contract. Most notable is the name “Lady Agnes” that this hull bears is the very same name as the first Bamburgh Company vessel, a Democritus Yacht used for luxury transport until its eventual sale due to the company’s expansion.

Lady Elizabeth - Still in drydock when the second sister was purchased by Bamburgh, her history prior to that was mired by missed payments and bankruptcy. Being built initially for a small cruise line, her construction was halted when bills went unpaid for months. Wracking up docking fees and fines, the original company filed for bankruptcy. In possession of their former lenders, she was offered up as an incomplete hull at a reasonable price. Bamburgh took advantage of this and snapped her up, completing work and being launched several months later. She is now considered to be the pride of the fleet despite her shaky start.

Lady Victoria - A controversial name in the Bamburgh Company headquarters. Starting life as a pleasure vessel for Bretonian corporate elites, she was mothballed as a cost cutting measure during an economic downturn. Eventually put up for sale, Bamburgh chose to purchase this third and final Palace. She was outfitted as the gem in the rough. With the most sophisticated equipment of all the sisters, she was going to bring the company to new heights across Sirius. However, before this could happen, war with Kusari broke out. As with all the sisters, she was requisitioned by the government for war duties. From what is known publicly, she was a hospital ship that saw action during Bretonia’s darkest hours.

After hostilities concluded, it was expected that she would be returned along with her two siblings. This was not the case, nor were Bamburgh compensated. She is still in use with the government for unknown purposes and can be seen all around Bretonia still using her Bamburgh Company registered name.

Legal battles continue to this day.

General Cargo Services

As of 827 AS, Bamburgh began to offer general cargo services using dedicated cargo vessels. Firstly delivering small freight via a number of Clydesdales for a select few customers. Soon they grew in number; the explosion in the volume of cargo they were given the responsibility to transport, the decision was taken to expand the fleet. Luckily, given the recent conflicts the number of suitable vessels for sale in Bretonia had skyrocketed.

The Shetland, Bretonian Train, was chosen after much evaluation. Many of the vessels purchased by Bamburgh had been former workhorses of the Armed Forces in their defence of the house, ferrying supplies to the frontlines with ease. The capability of the vessel to be able to load and unload itself using the built in lifting equipment was a key function as to why they were chosen over others.

With a fleet of superb vessels behind them, the company is expanding past the borders of Bretonia. You can expect to see their distinctive vessels all around Sirius hauling cargo that keeps everything moving.

The Bamburgh Company’s Owner

The founder and owner of The Bamburgh Company Ltd is Baronet Arthur Samuel Bancroft. While most publicly known for his anti-monarchy stance, he is the eldest son of the late Cambridge scholar, Baronet Archiebold Bancroft who passed away shortly before Bamburgh was founded.

Having attended Cambridge University, with honours, like his father before him he has a wealth of knowledge in the fields of business and politics. This has led him to step out from behind the legacy his father left behind and forge his own path in the stars. Bamburgh being the shining example of that, having won numerous awards for their excellent cruises.

While not heading the company, Arthur enjoys spending his time with his family at their estate on Planet Cambridge. Taking his wife, young son and two daughters off into the wilds for exuberant camping trips. As a family they host countless events raising awareness of the plight that Bretonian refugees endure.

He also spends his time fighting for the rights of numerous casualties of the needless conflicts the people of Bretonia have suffered. Whether they be at the hands of Kusari, Gallia or the Crown governed company, Bretonia Mining & Manufacturing.

The Future of Bamburgh

As Bamburgh continues to expand, it is looking to distance itself from the confines of classification as a shipping company. With the skills that the Bamburgh engineers bring, the company is looking into establishing itself as a competitor to Bretonia Mining & Manufacturing. This is no easy task given the economic climate that Bretonia finds itself in. However working with external companies will give the company a leg up in the right direction.

Raw material mining has also been on the agenda for Bamburgh, with many breakthroughs coming to help in this field.
