Have you ever wanted to explore outer space directly from your smartphone? Modern technologies can easily do this.
We will conduct experiments on the OnePlus 15 Global version smartphone with a CPU Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and Adreno 840 GPU.

First of all, let's launch Discovery Freelancer directly using the exe file. For this we will use GameHub with proton10.0-arm64-2. We use Fex_20250910 as the translator CPU, and qcom-842.6 as the GPU driver. DXVK version 2.4.1-async. The game starts and runs without any crashes. In space game works with 120-135 fps. When flying with a thruster or using trade lines, there is a noticeable freeze for 1-10 seconds.

Winlator-ludashi refused to launch the game in any way. Let's skip this solution. Winlator-CMOD with the config: Turnip-deck 26.0.0, dxvk 1.10.3, box64 0.4.0, performance preset allows you to play Freelancer Discovery mod relatively stably. There are some minor FPS drops, but overall it's playable.

It's time to launch the Discovery launcher and try to connect to the servers. The launcher works great with wine-mono, no need to install dotnet35sp1. However, to play on Freelancer servers, additional wine components are required, such as directplay, wmp, msxml3, msxml4 and etc. I never found a way to install them.

I'm waiting for your opinion

Okay, that's very impressive. Didn't think I'd see Disco on a phone.

In the future, tests are planned on Xiaomi Redmi 9T and Oppo A52.

And right now I managed to run S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl and Crysis 2 on Adreno 840

This launch method based on Android using the Linux kernel. iOS is incompatible with Linux and requires a separate implementation of Wine, Box64, and other tools.

I’m not terribly surprised it can be done, and I think as an experiment it’s neat to say it has been, but I have to wonder if there’s anyone who doesn’t love themselves enough to genuinely be willing to deal with the eyestrain and whatever gymnastics would be necessary for inputs.

I think battles/dogfighting would be horrible, but I could see trading being possible. Especially if you hooked up an external control via Bluetooth or wired in. Don't need a ton of visual fidelity, it's more controls what would hold back. Though whether it would be fun is a different question.

I'd need to plug a whole keyboard into my phone to roleplay, which rather defeats the purpose when I could just as easily carry a laptop around.

Still, it's a wicked cool proof of concept.
