Type: Effects
Bug: The Discovery Freelancer main menu loading screen with the shattered planet, battleship (?) and black hole causes bad lag (5-10 fps max) until I load into the server. My computer isn't the best, but none of the other loading screens cause any lag.

Reproduction Steps:
  • I'm unsure if it is possible to choose a specific menu background/loading screen, but it has been laggy every time this one has come up.
  • When I leave the server to choose a new character the lag comes back when this menu background appears again.
  • I did notice that during the opening panning animation, the lag only gets really bad once the black hole comes into view.
  • This is the only menu background (that I've encountered) that causes massive lag.

Additional Information: Menu Background

Could we get to know your specs? Are you using an integrated GPU?

sounds like if you were running on iGPU or not on max performance. there is a limit breaker to assure initial launch always sets graphic settings to maximum but nothing to do if you run on iGPU potato

You cannot allow the player to choose the loading screen. I also have an integrated graphics processor.

Try changing the Render Mode in Game Settings on the Discovery Launcher.

I will do so. I'll report back if anything changes next time that menu background pops up. Changed from DirectX 9 to Vulkan.

Unfortunately, DirectX Vulkan drivers cannot be installed on my laptop. I don’t know why. Version 9 is installed.

This issue is caused by 4x anti-aliasing being forced on as of a few patches ago. The vfx in that specific menu background were not optimized for it, resulting in a massive performance hit. This also applies to the Fischer system featuring the same black hole.

If the anti-aliasing is causing performance issues elsewhere, you can go into the dxwrapper.ini file in the EXE folder and switch it off by changing the value to 0. You may need to first change the file's permissions settings in its properties to save any changes.
