First allow me to congratulate you with your successful liberation of Jump Drive related data from the clutches of the Kusari government.
While only time will tell how these new technologies will shape our future, it is safe to say that it will do better out of the hands of those who would monopolize it for their own profit and personal gains.
I imagine many parties are reaching out to you to collaborate on the data in an attempt to replicate jump drives, however I am reaching out to you regarding a different topic altogether.
Some time ago the Core assaulted our assets in the Omicron Zeta system, a coordinated attack together with the infected forces of Kusari, even if the Core probably didn't realize they were witless pawns.
During their assault they fielded AI vessels from Gammu, seemingly weaponized or 'trained' for lack of better wording, to follow their orders.
These AI, unfortunately, proved fairly effective in their attack. Midway the battle however the AI ended up going rogue and turned against their former masters, led by the 'AI enhanced' Battleship Mars.
Frankly, as loathe as I am to admit it, we got lucky.
Not very lucky mind you, the Nomads showed up to wipe everyone out of Omicron Zeta after, but still the losses could have been even higher.
Now time has passed and we have sufficiently recovered we intend to research the AI fielded by the Core, see if they have any features we could use in a future encounter; an off switch, a reset signal, a specific frequency that blocks Core orders, anything that would give us an edge and deprive the Core from their newest toy.
It is my hope some of you would be willing to assist us in our research. No doubt your skillsets are particularly well suited for this project.
Personally not a big fan of Gammus. Not a big fan of any computer that wants to out-logic me, honestly, but Gammus take the cake on my no-no list. I've dealt with one before, living in a fighter shield, likely scraped off of Core's sacking of Gammu. Employer wanted me to fix the ships software, and the Little Robo That Could was trying to do the same, and was approaching it from the wrong end. Only reason I was able to put limiters on it is that, with the help of my augment, my write speed was faster than the AI, and I still had mental capacity to anticipate the machine's next moves because human brains are analogue. And that was a damaged AI limited to the processing power of a fighter shield, and it probably won't hold, thinking about it. It's like a freeform gymnastics chess game, how many self-iterations of an AI can I predict in a row?
If the Core really can control them, it's probably not a genuine control. Not a reprogramming, something jury-rigged like a virtual machine or the like, which is also why they'd lose control. Any lower-level, more absolute control like resets, off switches, and stuff like that probably requires some unparalleled hacking god.
If you have a sample, I'll poke around at it, though. Can't be much less interesting than Jump tech.
Sounds like you're the perfect Lane Hacker for the job, experience with these Gammu isn't exactly easy to come by.
I'll task a patrol with finding and recovering some samples, the Core and their AI have fought quite a bit, it shouldn't be too hard to find some intact enough to analyse.
I don't suppose you do house calls mister Ling? We'll make sure to prepare an appropriate quarantine lab on Damascus Research station. Alternatively we can see about transporting the samples over there once they're secured, though there would be some delays in getting them to you.
Given your previous experience I suppose it's safe to assume you have a similarly sectioned off lab to work in?
