I was wondering, can I do Freelancer SP on Vanilla, and then activate Disco and go ingame if I need to? Or will there be conflicts with savegames?

You can, but make sure that you have your FL CD handy for re-installs, if you activate and de-activate disco often junk builds up.

Yes, but I'm not sure if it keeps your saved games when you activate disco.

1) Install Freelancer
2) Navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\ in explorer
3) Copy the Freelancer folder and name the copy "vanilla"
4) Use the FLMM to apply the discovery mod.

To play vanilla, rename "Freelancer" to "disco" and rename "vanilla" to "Freelancer"

To be honest I haven't tried this to run vanilla, but when I mod disco (I have been learning how to mod systems), I use directories.

Disclaimers:
This is NOT the most space efficient method. (But you won't have to reinstall constantly)
FLMM will think you have Disco mod installed when you use vanilla
Don't connect to the disco server when you have the vanilla running!

Yes, it does.

If you played vanilla FL in the past before Disco your old saves might very well pop up and surprise you when you turn it on.

That's probably be why I can't play Vanilla anymore then. If I de-install then re-install I can just use FAM to bring my disco account back right? Or will de-installing break FAM?

You can at no risk of loosing your account numbers on FAM.

Actually I play FL and Disco on a non-admin computer (their school 'standard issue' laptops) and basically, I just copied 2 freelancers from my ext. hard drive and copied the disco folder into one of them (replacing all the original FL files there), so now I have one FL and one Disco.
