Several members of the LWB had covertly landed on the planet and, with the help of various OSC sympathizers, had begun to set up the meeting. The location chosen was an isolated pavilion far outside most of the popular mud spas. Several tables were gathered around, as well as the various pieces of evidence needed to assure the food corporation that their executives were unhurt. The VIPs themselves were at a nice resort nearby. Nice other than the armed guards, of course. None of the delegates had yet arrived, but it seemed they would any time now.
Wesley Richter surveyed the meet-point from a distance, planning possible escape routes and places where the Synth might try to lay traps. His quiet evaluation of the pavilion was broken as Eva Morgenrot walked up beside him.
"I'm not sure if we're doing the right thing..." she said slowly.
"Me neither, but the right thing isn't always the necessary thing."
"Me neither, but the right thing isn't always the necessary thing," Wesley said as Eva walked up beside him.
"That's true," she replied, "and that's what really makes me think. And worry. Especially after everything that's happened with Udo..."
She paused a moment to gather her thoughts and turned to Wesley. "There is some good news though. Have you met Ludwig?" she asked, gesturing to a young man standing nearby. "He's just joined up."
"Guten tag," Ludwig said. "The rest of my family is still trying to stick it out and survive as independent farmers, but I thought it my responsibility to try and make a difference. It's an honor to meet you, sir." He offered a handshake to Wesley.
Meanwhile, Eva spoke again. "Ja, this is a big meeting," she said. "Even Herr Wagner is going to be in attendance."
Hannah Hyane sat at a table not far from the other LWBs looking quite bored. She had lain her Dauman Devastator nearly on the table and had taken to relaxing her head on her palm while the farmers waited for the conglomerate delegates to enter the room. The LWB had a moderate stockpile of light arms, seeing as Dauman's convoys weren't often far off, but the need to bring many of them wasn't found. That seemed now to be a mistake.
"Eva," Hannah started, breathing a little heavily, "This seems just too convenient for the Liberty. We have been waiting here for half a week now, and our hosts have been generous, yes, but how long can we really expect them to be so generous?"
Hannah stood up, her side arm making a thapping noise against her thigh, "And what about the hostages? The men here have been most agreeable about their housing, but, again, for how long?" She now grabbed the devastator, and clutched the barrel firmly, "They aren't coming, Eva! Now we're stuck between a rock and a hard place! Now we have these men and what do we do? We cannot keep them. We cannot expect the spa managers to keep them. We cannot be butchers!"
She walked back to the table, still breathing hardly while clutching the rifle, "The managers are going to call the RFP if we stay much longer. Synth was never going to show up. This was just a plan to free their people without actually doing anything. Villainous swine!"
Regaining control of herself, Hannah retook her place at the table, still holding the gun, "What do we do, Eva? We cannot just wait forever. We need to do something."
