I hope that someone could help me in testing the battleship mode values.
Right now I'm considering several options: leaving current value as-is (0,04), adding a new value and leaving the old one to choose from (0,04 and 0,08), or changing values to a different one, 0,06 for example.
What's required is to test different values on battleships and cruisers. Values ranging from 0,02 to 0,1 or 0,15. The one who will test (battleship/cruiser owner) will have to change constant in constant.ini file and check a few things. You can do it on our server, the option is 100% clientside.
We need to know how two ship types - cruisers and battleships - behave:
1) When turning
2) When colliding with small ships or other objects
This is really important to choose the way how battleship mode will work in final version. Thanks in advance.
As I saw it, current value is rather perfect. Got rammed by another battleship (Gezza), and he bounced right off and I didn't move. Fighters in New York seems way more like gnats than last time, no crazy spinning motions that would make even the strongest stomach turn upside down.
I've done more testing since last posting in the beta release 2 thread.
Current setting of 0.004 is about 10 seconds slower to turn an unmoving diagonal 360 degree turn than normal battleship speed. Not very suitable.
A setting of 0.008 is about the most comfortable setting I've found that works with battleships in most types of usage.
Advantage of this setting is that the small rocks in asteroid fields don't have a big effect on the battleships.
Cruisers are also usable with this setting.
A setting of 0.012 is pretty good for gunboat and bigger.
It even allows reasonable usage with a bomber or VHF.
Small rocks start to become annoying when flying a battleship through asteroid fields. The small rocks get jammed in the hitbox on most big ships, knocking them around.
0.028 allows use of all ships normally.
If using a light fighter, a 360 degree diagonal turn can be completed in ~3.5 seconds.
I've tested with a Starflier for turn rate measurement. Haven't tested with any other light fighters.
The advantage of this setting is that it allows usage of all the ships.
Hitting large asteroids and cruising NPCs no longer sends your ship off on a completely different angle. Your ship just bounces off and continues on in almost the same direction.
Obvious disadvantages over other settings show up in bigger ships. Small rocks in asteroid fields knock battleships around almost as badly as when the setting is disabled.
Slow moving NPCs can also knock stationary battleships around a lot when they fly through.
All settings make life much easier. Thanks Igiss!:)
Will it be class-individual? Such as battleships have .004, cruisers .008, GB have .012, VHFs and bombers have maybe .02, while LFs have .028.
Another question i have is will they affect the ships manuverability?
I am a long-absent Supreme Commander, Executive Commander, Grand Admiral, Fleet Admiral, and Captain in the mighty Hellfire Legion. I have returned, and am on an urgent mission from Drake Thastus to return the Legion to its former glory, and to claim the galaxy for its own. Only then will I be able to rest.
