This idea popped into my head this morning on the drive to work

I figure that maybe, with a few tweeks and a retexture, our famous pregeagle (the rather obese ship that was our Civi bomber) could easily be turned into a small civilian freighter or transport. The two main gunports have to be edited out of the model, maybe a couple other minor changes and I don't see why it won't fit the role rather well. She certianly looks like she has a cargo bay, and does have the same style as the other ships in the CTE line.

If I had any ship making skills or programs I would get a test model up straight away, but I don't have the skill or software.

Thoughts?

In terms of being a freighter, it's probably about the right size. I thought it would be too small, but I underestimated just how big the preagle was... It's only slightly shorter than a Rhino, and about the same width.
It probably needs more tweaking than just removing the torpedo mounts, but it could probably serve as a civilian freighter model.

Are there any import freighters left to be replaced? Civilian ones?

I was actually talking to some people about this a week ago, and we were thinking of basing the freighter off the Starblazer body.

Take that rear hexagonal portion, make it larger, stretch it downward, stretch it back - into a proper cargo bay - and then put fins at the rear.

Of course, there'd be a little more editing than that, but that's the basic gist of the idea.

There could be a larger one made from the Eagle body base, too.

In theory you could actually turn it into a 'pod' style freighter by making recesses in the underside of each 'pregnant' spot, one cargo-pod per side.

It might be cool since only trains and vanilla large freighters have container slots (to my knowledge anyways)

It could be put into the infocard, like we did with the Hogosha thing. It used to be a bomber, then The Roc-2 came out and it was turned into a freighter.
