The facions connected to the Outcast still are doing great, although. The Lane Hackers, formerly the Hessians, Mollies, and the Blood Dragons are doing relatively good. (The exception would be the GC, but they always were like that.)

That's why I thought it was the Corsairs that messed them up.

The Hessians have drifted from their original goals too, as have the GC. The Mollys, slightly less so, but are mostly pirates and brutal terrorists these days too.

Discovery wise, the Corsairs messed up the Unioners' mindset and changed their real goal, which explains why the Unioners, along with the Gaians, are more or less petty criminals today.

I've never found anything on why the Corsairs and Unioners became allies at first, and even less on why they stopped to be allies.

They were still without ultimately big goals when they were allied with the Bundschuh back in the vanilla - except hitting the Republican Shipping back, harassing Synth Foods convoys, playing with Xenos in the turf wars, smuggling diamonds from Dawson to Kreuzberg and hassling with Red Hessians whenever they tried to expand into Dresden only to be repelled by superior odds (I don't believe any of those goals would be ideally supreme but eventual results of their endeavor to continue their existence) - before the Corsair alliance was introduced, which happened only in Discovery. They have been much like petty and brutally violent criminals from the moment they were castigated without grand ideals but with hatred for some groups and the eventual continuation of the results of their popular revolt back in the time.

Pretty much... I wish people would stop perceiving unlawfuls in Sirius as either "Corsair" or "Outcast", it's so bloody limiting to think in this ridiculous scope of black and white where supposedly all of them are inherently evil and without any values whatsoever. Rheinland's unlawfuls chose not to side with either, don't dumb them down again because "the Corsairs have too few allies".

To be honest, I think you're making it very black and white. The geometrical shape we call Discovery has many more sides than a cube or a dodecahedron (16 sides). The Unioners are affected by quite a few of them, but what exactly is wrong with playing a couple of these sides? What would be wrong with smuggling both Artifacts and Blood Diamonds? Is it that you're afraid of the dishonest RP involved?

I think that's just it. The RP isn't exactly what you agree with, but that doesn't mean it isn't completely plausible. It is just adding another facet onto the multi-faced geometrical object that is Discovery. It's not "dumbing it down" at all. It is doing just the opposite; smarting it up.

I completely agree with you here. People should have their freedom to invest in their roles and understanding of a particular group of people. We wouldn't be damned if someone preferred to roleplay his or her Unioner by investing in artifacts smuggling, that would indicate more depth and realism instead.

I dont believe that , in this case, we could use vannila as an exemple. It has been 15 years from the nomad war, Rheinland isnt the same as it was at that time. The coorporations are now more greedy, the goverment had changed and the "unlawfulls" have political goals behind their actions. Some maintain truth to them, others are more brutal, but still we all changed. Look at all relations on Sirius from then to now. So, i do at sometimes transport artifacts, blood diamonds, food, arms, etc, to finance my ships and supply our bases.
So, if we need more friends, or enemies, i dont mind, but only if its done within a gradual change.

We can't say the alliance with Corsairs didn't have any effects. Availability of artifacts in Leipheim is just one indicator of it. Some of the interests and methods naturally changed but the main goals are about the same such like plundering shipments and smuggling goods for funding. There may be different perceptions of valuing an objective though. A petty goal for some man could be a grand one for another and we can't blame anyone for this, its bloody natural.
